The view is: First, regarding obscurations, although they accept two types: afflictive obscurations and obscurations that are afflictive, or ignorance, they do not acknowledge the term 'cognitive obscurations.' Attachment to a self of a person and the afflictions that arise from it are afflictive obscurations, while the imprints of these and the unfortunate states that arise from them are not afflictive obscurations. Second, regarding the actual path, they accept five paths: the two paths of accumulation and preparation, the two paths of seeing and meditation, and the path of no more learning. Furthermore, they accept the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, from the four mindfulnesses to the eightfold noble path, but they do not acknowledge the terms 'ten grounds' and 'enjoyment body.' The main aspect of the path of liberation is the path of realizing the four truths and the sixteen aspects (impermanence, etc.), and especially the wisdom that realizes the emptiness of a self-sufficient, independently existing person. The fifteen moments of the path of seeing arise sequentially, and the sixteenth moment, the subsequent wisdom of the path, is considered the path of meditation. Third, regarding the result, by meditating on the main paths mentioned earlier, one attains the state of an Arhat by abandoning the ignorance of afflictive obscurations, and one attains Buddhahood by abandoning the ignorance of non-afflictive obscurations. The enlightenment of a Shravaka can be attained in three lifetimes if it is quick, the enlightenment of a Pratyekabuddha requires a hundred eons, and the enlightenment of a Buddha requires three countless eons. For Shravakas, they accept the twenty Sanghas and the classification of Stream-enterers, and they also believe that an inferior Arhat can degenerate from their abandoned realizations and revert to being a Stream-enterer. Although they accept the twelve deeds of the Buddha, what differs from the Mahayana is that from the initial generation of the mind of enlightenment up to the subduing of Mara in the evening, they are considered ordinary beings, and from the moment they manifest the path of seeing that very night, they are considered noble beings. Moreover, from birth until they take ordination, they are householders, and from then on, they are ordained monks, and their deeds are in accordance with this, considering the deeds of householders and ordained monks to be real. Because they accept that consciousness ceases at the time of Nirvana, they do not believe that the splendor of the form body will be shown thereafter. Although the indestructible and unceasing wisdom of the Buddha's mindstream is the Buddha Jewel, that physical body itself...

Because they consider suffering to be the truth, they do not consider the Buddha to be a jewel. Similarly, the Sangha Jewel is also established on the path truth of the mental continuum of the noble disciples. They do not consider those individuals to be the Sangha Jewel. This school and the Sutra school both believe that external objects exist, so they are also known as proponents of meaning. Second, the tenets of the Sutra school have four aspects: nature, meaning of the term, divisions, and tenets. First, that person who asserts the tenets of the Lesser Vehicle, who accepts both self-awareness and external objects, is the nature of the Sutra school. Second, because they take the sutras spoken by the Bhagavan as valid and follow them, they are called Sutra school. Third, if we divide it, there are two types: Sutra followers of scripture and Sutra followers of reason. The first is like the Sutra school that follows the Abhidharma-kosa. The second is like the Sutra school that follows the seven treatises on valid cognition. The seven Abhidharma treatises are the very seven treatises such as the Dharma Skandha compiled by Shariputra. Although the Vaibhashikas think that those are all spoken by the Buddha, the Sutra school thinks that they were compiled by those arhats and are not the words of the Buddha. Fourth, the tenets have three aspects: the basis, the path, and the result. First, they assert that knowable things are definitely numbered as two truths, and those that can effectively function in the ultimate sense are the ultimate truth. They assert that phenomena that cannot function in that way are the conventional truth. As it says in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: Whatever can effectively function in the ultimate sense, that is ultimately existent here; the other is conventionally existent. Like that. Moreover, cause and effect, benefit and harm, etc., are only reasonable on the basis of things, but they are not reasonable on the basis of non-things. Therefore, they assert that all things can effectively function in the ultimate sense. Therefore, things, self-characteristics, conditioned phenomena, and ultimate truth are the same in meaning. General characteristics, unconditioned phenomena, and conventional truth are the same in meaning. Since the measurable is definitely numbered as two, self-characteristic and general-characteristic, valid cognition is definitely numbered as two, direct perception and inference. Furthermore, there are many ways to distinguish between object and subject, which should be learned in detail from Collected Topics and other texts. Both this school and the Vaibhashika school
