A Treasury for the Wise, Compendium of the Essential Meanings of All Tenets. A Treasury for the Wise, Compendium of the Essential Meanings of All Tenets. A work entitled "A Treasury for the Wise, Compendium of the Essential Meanings of All Tenets" is present. Homage to Guru Manjughosha For all systems, the supreme eye, Collections and parts of reasoning and instructions, The teachers who bestow and fully embrace, Even remembering them stirs the hairs of faith. The general and specific tenets of one's own school, As the learned and accomplished ones have accepted, Here I will explain in concise and easy-to-understand words, If there are impartial and intelligent ones, it is appropriate to enter. Secondly, the establishment of one's own school's tenets has two aspects: a general presentation and individual explanations. The first is that the common tenets of one's own school are definitely fourfold, namely: the tenets of the Vaibhashika, Sautrantika, Cittamatra, and Madhyamaka schools, because they are definitely four. As the Noble Intelligent Fame (Matichitra) said: The Vaibhashika and Sautrantika, The Yogachara and Madhyamaka, Change, so it is said. If those four are collected, they are included in the two tenets of the Great and Small Vehicles, namely: the tenets of the Vaibhashika and Sautrantika are the tenets of the Hinayana, and the tenets of the Cittamatra and Madhyamaka are included in the Mahayana. Who opened the tradition of the chariots of the two Great and Small Vehicles? The answer is that Nagarjuna opened the chariot tradition of the Madhyamaka, and Asanga opened the chariot tradition of the Cittamatra, and both of them also opened the chariot tradition of the Mahayana. Incidentally, the chariot tradition that relies on the Hinayana tenets was also opened. Each of the four tenets considers its own system to be the self-system of the Teacher Buddha, and also considers its own system to be unmixed with the two extremes of permanence and annihilation. However, other non-Buddhist schools assert the existence of a permanent self, which is refuted by our own Vaibhashika school. The Vaibhashika school asserts that unconditioned phenomena are substantially existent, which is refuted by the Sautrantika school. The Sautrantika school asserts that self-characteristics are established by the power of the extent to which they exist as the basis for the imputation of their respective names, which is refuted by the Cittamatra school. The Cittamatra school asserts that phenomena are truly established, which is refuted by the Madhyamaka school, so the latter tenets refute the former.

Therefore, the former is superior to the latter. Thus, among the four schools of thought, the former becomes the basis for the latter. The way it is, the outsiders do not know how to establish the self and the previous and subsequent lives, but the Vaibhashikas understand this. The Sautrantikas take this understanding as the basis for establishing conditioned and unconditioned phenomena. The Sautrantikas understand it in such a way that the Mind-Only school believes that even if all phenomena are not autonomously established on the basis of the term "self-self," actions are reasonable, and it is possible to understand how to establish that the imputed phenomena are not established by their own nature. The Mind-Only school understands it in such a way that the Madhyamikas understand that all phenomena are established only by name and concept, and that there is not even a particle of truly established things other than that, but actions are reasonable. Therefore, there are differences in superiority and inferiority. But this is not because the Buddha who speaks has faults such as closeness or distance, but because the disciples have superior and inferior faculties, so this is a means to gradually lead them to the Buddha's land. As it is said in the "Arya-Kshetrapala-Pariprccha Sutra": "Those who do not know the nature of emptiness, peace, and non-arising, wander in samsara. With the means of great compassion, they are introduced with hundreds of reasons." And in the "Ratnavali" it is also said: "Just as grammarians use the reversal of letters, similarly, the Buddha teaches the Dharma to the disciples as much as they can tolerate." Up to "The essence of emptiness is compassion, which is taught to some who seek enlightenment." Therefore, even so, among the two Madhyamika schools, the Prasangika's view is superior to all other views, because it is a pure view that is free from all extremes of permanence and annihilation. As glorious Chandrakirti said: "This view is not common to others." And Je Tsongkhapa also said: "Abandoning the extremes of existence and non-existence." Because the common schools of Inner Way are determined to be four, the people who speak of these schools are also determined to be four. These will be explained later. Second, the separate explanations are divided into four: Vaibhashika, Sautrantika, Mind-Only, and Madhyamika. First, the Vaibhashika has four: nature, meaning of words, classification, and the view of the school. The first is: not admitting self-awareness, and external objects...
