Then, it was announced to the giants of the grassland. The giants prepared for seven days. On the seventh day, the wives and daughters of the giants wove banners, and the young giants carried the stretchers. The gods made offerings with incense, garlands, and perfumes, entering the center from the west gate of the grassland, exiting from the east gate, and were seated before the stupa adorned with the crown of Dhratarashtra. The gods scattered flowers up to knee height. At that time, a merchant took many flowers and went to the city of sinners, where he met the great Kashyapa, who wanted to pay homage to the uncorrupted body of the Blessed One, and told him the news of the Teacher's passing. An old man said, 'O monks, this is what should be done, and this is what should not be done.' Thus, he was freed from the bondage of speech. 'Now, do what can be done, and do not do what cannot be done.' What he said was obscured by the gods, and no one heard it except Kashyapa. Kashyapa urged the Sangha to go quickly to see the uncorrupted body of the Blessed One. At that time, the giants treated the body as they would the body of a Chakravartin king, wanting to light the fire, but the fire did not burn, nor did it go out. They knew that Kashyapa had not yet arrived, and so they spoke. When Kashyapa arrived, he opened the coffin, removed the cloth and cotton, and paid homage to the uncorrupted body. At that time, among the four great Shravakas—Sarvajna, the Encourager, the Ten-Powered Kashyapa, and the Great Kashyapa—the Great Kashyapa, who possessed wisdom and great merit, wrapped other cotton petals and five hundred pieces of cloth around the body, placed it in an iron coffin, filled it with oil, covered it with two iron lids, and piled up all the fragrant wood, which spontaneously ignited. Ananda said, 'The Teacher, possessing a precious body, departed to the Brahma world with great miraculous powers. The Buddha's body was wrapped with five hundred pieces of cloth and thousands of robes. By your splendor, the body and the tightly wrapped garments were burned. Two robes were not burned, namely, the inner and outer layers.' Then, the giants used fire.

He was killed by milk. From the milk were born four: the golden one, the yellow one, the meaning of horse, and the Udumbara flower. The relics were placed in golden urns and enshrined in the center of the city, and offerings were made. Then, the giants of the sinful land heard that the Teacher had passed away for seven days, and they equipped four divisions of troops and said to the giants of the grassland: "We have cherished and loved this Teacher for a long time, but he has passed away near your city. Give us a share of the relics. We will build a stupa in the sinful land and make offerings and celebrate festivals. If you do not give it, we will seize it by force." They said, "So be it." Similarly, the royal family of Awakening Shaking, the Buluka, the Grodhava of Sound Proclamation, the Brahmins of the All-Pervading Continent, the Shakya of Yellow, and the Licchavi of the Vast Land were also informed. Ajatashatru of Magadha also heard that they had gone to take a share of the relics, so he set out. Riding on an elephant, he fainted remembering the Teacher's virtues. Then, he sent a messenger and asked: "By my command, is the harm to the giants small? Is the fear small? Is the movement slow? How is their livelihood? Are they strong? Do they dwell in comfort?" And say: "We have cherished the Teacher for a long time, and he has become our lama, but he has passed away near your city. Give us a share of the relics. We will build a stupa in Rajagriha and make offerings and celebrate festivals." Then, the messenger did so. The giants said, "We will do the same." If we seize it by force? They said, "So be it." The wives and young people of the giants also practiced their hips, in order to fight with the other four divisions of troops, the giants equipped four divisions and came out. At that time, the Brahmin caste Brevo was with them, and knowing that if they fought, someone would die, he said to the giants of the grassland: "The Teacher has long been endowed with patience and praised patience, but for the sake of the relics, it is not right to kill each other. I will divide the relics into eight parts and give them to those in the urns, and I will make offerings."
