At that time, it is not enough to just practice the Dharma occasionally. Like a poor person finding a wish-fulfilling jewel, from the depths of your heart, consider the Dharma to be rare and meaningful. Do not waste a single day or even an hour. You must have a longing to attain the essence of human life. It is said that just practicing one or two rounds will not lead anywhere. When practicing impermanence, constantly remember death. Whatever you do, such as eating, sleeping, walking, sitting, speaking, etc., think, "This is the last time I will do this action." Observe whether the actions of your body, speech, and mind have become ordinary. If you can do this, all the excellent Dharma will naturally be accomplished without effort. Therefore, among all Buddhist practices, there is nothing more important than this. It is said that Dharma that does not remember death, no matter how good it may seem on the surface, will be meaningless because it is lost in this life. Therefore, taming your mind in three ways is very important at the beginning. For example, if hard leather is not soaked in water, it cannot be softened with oil; if barren land is not plowed, crops will not grow. Similarly, if you do not tame the bad thoughts that you have been accustomed to since beginningless time, and your mind stream becomes hardened, then genuine qualities of realization from refuge and bodhicitta to the main practice will not arise. Therefore, do not rush to accumulate the five preliminaries and enter the main practice. It is important to make sure that these mind-training practices are integrated into your mind. When practicing mind training according to the guiding texts, verbally recite the words of remembrance, using a slow tone, dividing the slightly longer sentences into sections, and reciting them repeatedly. After reciting all of these, remember their meaning and generate compassion for others. From "Alas! Alas! Impermanence," etc., up to "Bless me to be liberated right now!" recite three times, etc., and recite "Alas! Alas! How wonderful! Three Jewels" three times, etc. Second, the preliminaries for taming your mind. For example, like rubbing moistened leather with oil, and sowing seeds on fertile land and then watering and fertilizing it. To be rescued from the wrong path, take refuge in the Three Jewels; to be rescued from the inferior path, generate supreme bodhicitta.
