Even after hundreds of thousands of eons, it is difficult to obtain. As it is said, therefore, until you turn your mind away from samsara, you should meditate on the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment. If it is so difficult to obtain a human body, then this one opportunity is the food for hundreds of lifetimes, and you must make it compatible with the Dharma. Even if you obtain a pure human body, you should meditate until you give rise to intense compassion for those who waste their lives. When you see these worldly people, if you do not give rise to compassion, then you have not given rise to realization. If you give rise to intense compassion and increase diligence, then you have given rise to realization. If diligence does not increase, then meditation is meaningless. Meditate on this for three days and then leave. By meditating on the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment in this way, you will obtain a human body in the future, and you will be free from attachment to this life, and you will not remember non-Dharma in your mind, and you will eventually become a Buddha. Practice well! From the section on meditating on the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment in the Bardo Instructions: Self-Liberation of the Mind, this is the second Dharma session. After that, one should meditate on death and impermanence, which is: if you do not contemplate death and impermanence, you will not give rise to certainty in your mind. If you do not give rise to certainty in your mind, you will become lazy and indolent, you will not remember the Dharma, and you will engage in the affairs of this life, becoming lax and careless, and eventually die in an ordinary state, and the precious human body will be wasted. Therefore, meditating on death and impermanence is extremely important. If impermanence arises in your mind, there is no room for laziness. Remembering death from the depths of your heart, the Dharma will arise spontaneously. Therefore, one should meditate on impermanence, which is: meditate in such places, alone, without companions, at the source of a valley, where there is no traffic of those called "humans," where there are green mountains piled up, where there are gorges with flowing water, where reeds are moved by the wind, making a rustling sound, where the sun sets little by little, where mountain streams flow trickling, a place that is unpleasant and depressing, or a cemetery, where many corpses are lying scattered, the legs and feet of corpses, flesh and bones, pieces of skin scattered about, foxes wailing, crows walking falteringly, owls making shrill cries, the wind blowing howling, foxes and wolves pulling the corpses back and forth.

Terrifying, extremely frightening, sad, hair-raising, dreadful. In such a place, either go alone, or if not gathering, then meditate. Moreover, the place of meditation is also very special. Having gone to such places and meditated, it is important because impermanence arises spontaneously. Having arrived there, assume the posture of seated cross-legged, with the palms of the hands covering the knees, or else, as before, assume the posture of sorrow, and turn the mind inward, and from the depths of the heart, think thus: Alas, what is this? These external weathers, not for a single moment are they permanent, but spring, summer, autumn, winter, and so forth, gradually change without stopping. Even this single sun of today, morning, noon, and evening, gradually change and pass away. Even between the previous word and the next, time passes without stopping. One's own parents, elders, villagers, neighbors, friends, peers, enemies, and relatives, all are impermanently dying one by one. Age also gradually, from infant, child, youth, old age, to death, changes without stopping for a single moment. Therefore, now for myself also, death will quickly come. The speed at which years, months, days, and numbers pass is like this. If I were to pass away, would I still remain on this earth? Moreover, my life is without certainty. Whether I die tomorrow, or the day after, or when I die is uncertain. I have no time to remain idly. If life is wasted in distraction, it would be extremely regrettable. It is certain that death will come. Before dying, life does not remain freely, so death is certain. The body is compounded, so death is certain. This life also passes without stopping for a single moment, so death is certain. For example, like water flowing down a steep mountain, or like livestock being led to the slaughter, one is quickly going in the direction of death. Moreover, on top of being certain to die, when one will die is uncertain. Because there is no certainty that life will last this long, when one will die is uncertain. Because the causes of death are extremely numerous, when one will die is uncertain. Because the body has no essence, when one will die is uncertain. Where do I have time to remain lazy? Moreover, once I die, no one can hold me back, no one can protect me.
