Excluding the non-returner's path-attainer and the eighth individual, the remaining individuals have not abandoned the latent tendency to doubt and have not abandoned the latent tendency to sensual lust. Does he who has not abandoned the latent tendency to sensual lust not abandon the latent tendency to lust for existence… and so on… the latent tendency to ignorance? One endowed with the highest path has not abandoned the latent tendency to sensual lust, but he has abandoned the latent tendency to ignorance. Excluding the two individuals endowed with the path, the remaining individuals have not abandoned the latent tendency to sensual lust and have not abandoned the latent tendency to ignorance. Or does he Does he who has not abandoned the latent tendency of ignorance not abandon the latent tendency of sensual desire? One endowed with the path of a Non-returner has not abandoned the latent tendency of ignorance, but he has abandoned the latent tendency of sensual desire. One endowed with the highest path has not abandoned the latent tendency of aversion, but he has abandoned the latent tendency of conceit. Excluding two individuals endowed with the path, the remaining individuals have not abandoned the latent tendency of aversion and have not abandoned the latent tendency of conceit. (B) Or does he who has not abandoned the latent tendency of conceit not abandon the latent tendency of aversion? One endowed with the path of a Non-returner has not abandoned the latent tendency of conceit, but he has abandoned the latent tendency of aversion. Does one who does not abandon the latent tendency to conceit not abandon the latent tendency to wrong view… (and so on) … not abandon the latent tendency to doubt? The eighth individual does not abandon the latent tendency to conceit, but that one does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt. (b) Or, does one who does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt not abandon the latent tendency to wrong view? Yes… (and so on)…. 169. Does one who does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt not abandon the latent tendency to craving for existence… (and so on) … not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance? One endowed with the highest path does not abandon the latent tendency to doubt, but that one does not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance. Excluding one endowed with the highest path and the eighth individual, the remaining individuals do not abandon the latent tendency to doubt and do not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance. Or, does one who does not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance not abandon the latent tendency to doubt? The eighth individual does not abandon the latent tendency to ignorance. He abandons, but he does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt. Except for the one endowed with the highest path and the eighth person, the remaining individuals do not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance and do not abandon the latent tendency of doubt. 170. (Ka) Whoever does not abandon the latent tendency of craving for existence, does he not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance? Yes. Whoever does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual desire and the latent tendency of aversion, does he not abandon the latent tendency of craving for existence... and the latent tendency of ignorance? One endowed with the highest path does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual desire and the latent tendency of aversion, but he does not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance.
