In the form realm, in the formless realm, from there, one abandons the latent tendency of ignorance, and of conceit, and of views, and of doubt, and of desire for existence, but from there, one does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual desire, and of aversion. In the sense realm, in two feelings, from there, one abandons the latent tendency of ignorance, and of sensual desire, and of conceit, and of views, and of doubt, but from there, one does not abandon the latent tendency of aversion, and of desire for existence. In painful feeling, from there, one abandons the latent tendency of ignorance, and of aversion, and of views, and of doubt, but from there, one does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual desire, and of conceit, and of desire for existence. The eighth person, in the sense realm, in two feelings, in the form realm, in the formless realm, he abandons the latent tendency of doubt from there, but he does not abandon the latent tendency of aversion from there. No. Or does he who abandons the underlying tendency of doubt from a certain place, abandon the underlying tendency of conceit from that place? The eighth person, experiencing painful feeling, abandons the underlying tendency of doubt from that place, but he does not abandon the underlying tendency of conceit from that place. That same person, in the two feelings of the sense-sphere, in the form-sphere, in the formless-sphere, abandons the underlying tendency of doubt from that place, and abandons the underlying tendency of conceit at the same time. (A) Does he who abandons the underlying tendency of conceit from a certain place, abandon the underlying tendency of attachment to existence from that place? One endowed with the highest path, in the two feelings of the sense-sphere, abandons the underlying tendency of conceit from that place, but he does not abandon the underlying tendency of attachment to existence from that place. That same person, in the form-sphere, in the formless-sphere, abandons the underlying tendency of conceit from that place, and abandons the underlying tendency of attachment to existence. (B) Or does he who abandons the underlying tendency of attachment to existence from a certain place, abandon the underlying tendency of conceit from that place? Yes. (A) Does he who abandons the underlying tendency of conceit from a certain place, abandon the underlying tendency of ignorance from that place? Yes. (B) Or does he who abandons the underlying tendency of ignorance from a certain place, abandon the underlying tendency of conceit from that place? One endowed with the highest path, experiencing painful feeling, abandons the underlying tendency of ignorance from that place, but he does not abandon the underlying tendency of conceit from that place. That same person, in the two feelings of the sense-sphere, in the form-sphere, in the formless-sphere, abandons the underlying tendency of ignorance from that place, and abandons the underlying tendency of conceit. 157. (A) Does he who abandons the underlying tendency of wrong view from a certain place, abandon the underlying tendency of doubt from that place? Yes. (B) Or does he who abandons the underlying tendency of doubt from a certain place, abandon the underlying tendency of wrong view from that place? Yes… 158. (A) Does he who abandons the underlying tendency of doubt from a certain place, abandon the underlying tendency of attachment to existence from that place? The eighth person, in the three feelings of the sense-sphere, abandons the underlying tendency of doubt from that place, but he does not abandon the underlying tendency of attachment to existence from that place. That same person, in the form-sphere, in the formless-sphere, abandons the underlying tendency of doubt from that place, and abandons the underlying tendency of attachment to existence at the same time. he abandons. (Kha) Or, whoever abandons the latent tendency to ignorance from a certain place, does he abandon the latent tendency to craving for existence from that place? One endowed with the highest path, in the sense-sphere, in the three feelings, he abandons the latent tendency to ignorance from that place, but he does not abandon the latent tendency to craving for existence from that place. That same person, in the form-sphere, in the formless-sphere, he abandons the latent tendency to ignorance and he abandons the latent tendency to craving for existence from that place. (One root) 160. (Ka) Whoever abandons the latent tendency to sensual craving and the latent tendency to aversion from a certain place, does he abandon the latent tendency to conceit from that place? There is none. (Kha) Or, whoever abandons the latent tendency to conceit from a certain place, does he abandon the latent tendency to sensual craving and the latent tendency to aversion from that place? No. Whoever abandons the latent tendency to sensual craving and the latent tendency to aversion from a certain place, does he abandon the latent tendency to wrong view... and the latent tendency to doubt from that place?
