Among the six origins of offenses, it arises from six origins...etc. 138. Where was the offense of expiation laid down for one who enters a village at the wrong time without asking a resident monk? It was laid down in Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the group of six monks. On what occasion? On the occasion when the group of six monks entered a village at the wrong time. Where was the offense of expiation laid down for one who has a needle-case made of bone, or of ivory, or of horn? It was laid down among the Sakyans. Concerning whom? Concerning many bhikkhus. It was promulgated at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the group-of-six bhikkhus. Concerning what matter? Concerning the matter where the group-of-six bhikkhus wore immeasurable rain-cloths. Where was the offense of pācittiya promulgated for one who has a robe made that is the measure of the Sugata’s robe? It was promulgated at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning Venerable Nanda. Concerning what matter? Concerning the matter where Venerable Nanda wore a robe that was the measure of the Sugata’s robe. One promulgation. It arises from six origins of offenses, by six origins…etc…. The Chapter on Kings, the ninth. The ninety-two pācittiyas are finished. The Minor Section is complete. Its summary – Falsehood, touching, slander, sleeping in a bed with a woman; Apart from a discerning one, a real [declaration and announcement (Sī. Syā.)], a serious offense, digging. Knowing what is real, complaining [knowing what is real, speaking, complaining (Sī.)], a couch and a bed are said; Pulling out beforehand, striking, a door with a living being. Without consent, at sunset, with a dwelling and food; Give, sew, by arrangement, a boat, eat together. A lump, a group, another cake, invited, invited; Wrong time, storage, milk, with a tooth-stick, these ten. Naked, provoking [naked, approaching (Ka.)], covered, by a secret place; Invited, with requisites, staying in the army, inciting. Alcohol, a finger, laughter, and disrespect, and frightening; Light, bathing, bad color, by oneself, by concealment. Scratches of Dhamma-friends, delusion by a blow is expelled. And having deliberately fabricated what is groundless, I will hear of the departure of the weary. Having given a robe to the Sangha, one should dedicate it to an individual; And for the king, a jewel existing, a needle, a bed, and a mattress; a sitting cloth, a covering for boils, and a rain-garment by the Fortunate One, thus it is said. The summary of these sections – Falsehood, and what has come to be, and advice, and by food, and by the naked one; Liquor, and with living beings, Dhamma, with the section on the king, these are nine. 6. The Section on Things to be Confessed 146. What was laid down by the Blessed One, the Knower, the Seer, the Arahant, the Perfectly Self-Enlightened One, as a matter to be confessed for one who, having entered a house, receives with his own hand from the hand of an unrelated bhikkhuni any hard food or soft food, and eats it? Where was it laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning a certain bhikkhu. On what occasion? A certain bhikkhu, having entered a house, received with his own hand from the hand of an unrelated bhikkhuni some food; on that occasion. One rule. Of the six origins of offenses, it arises from two origins – it may arise from the body, not from speech, not from mind; it may arise from the body and from the mind, not from speech… and so on. 147. What was laid down as a matter to be confessed for one who eats without preventing a bhikkhuni who is making a request? Where was it laid down? It was laid down at Rājagaha. Concerning whom? Concerning the group of six bhikkhus. On what occasion? The group of six bhikkhus did not prevent bhikkhunis who were making requests; on that occasion. One rule. Of the six origins of offenses, it arises from two origins – it may arise from the body and from speech, not from mind; it may arise from the body, and from speech, and from mind… and so on. 148. What was laid down as a matter to be confessed for one who, in families designated as 'training families', receives with his own hand any hard food or soft food, and eats it? Where was it laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning many bhikkhus. On what occasion? In what matter? Many bhikkhus, not knowing the measure, accepted it, in that matter. One rule, two supplementary rules. Of the six origins of offense, it arises from two origins – sometimes it arises from body, not from speech, not from mind; sometimes it arises from body and mind, not from speech… and so on. 149. In forest dwellings, for one who, having not previously informed, accepts with his own hand and eats food or edibles within the monastery, where was the Pāṭidesanīya rule laid down? It was laid down among the Sakyans. Concerning whom? Concerning many bhikkhus. In what matter? Many bhikkhus did not report the thieves residing in the monastery, in that matter. One rule, one supplementary rule. Of the six origins of offense, it arises from two origins – sometimes it arises from body and speech, not from mind; sometimes it arises from body and speech and mind… and so on. The four Pāṭidesanīya rules are concluded. The summary thereof – With a non-relative, the permission, and with a trainee and a forest dweller; The four Pāṭidesanīya rules, declared by the Fully Awakened One. 7. Where was the Dukkata offense laid down for one who, out of disrespect, wears his lower robe hanging down in front or behind, by the Blessed One, the Knower, the Seer, the Arahant, the Perfectly Self-Awakened One? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the group of six bhikkhus. In what matter? The group of six bhikkhus wore their lower robes hanging down both in front and behind, in that matter. One rule. Of the six origins of offense, it arises from one origin – it arises from body and mind, not from speech… and so on.
