Due to physical discomfort, he wondered if there were any stones here. While searching, he found the root of a flower, which he took as a sign that the matter he had been contemplating for a long time would be accomplished, and he was amazed. The next day, he asked if the sleep was peaceful, and the answer was that it was not, because of the clothes contaminated with the remnants of the plague. He asked the sleeper how this happened, and he replied that it was due to weaving. He then asked the weaver, who said, "It wasn't me; I was infected with the plague while weaving this." (He asked) How did you know it wasn't blocked? (He answered) From the touch of heat. (He praised) You are truly wise and fortunate! There, the Unobstructed One wanted to renounce the world, so he asked King Good Protector, who replied that it was good. King Good Protector himself was also happy to renounce the world, but he thought, "If I renounce the world, Devadatta will become king and will harm everyone, so I will first ask Devadatta's intention." So he went to Devadatta and asked, "If we all renounce the world, what will you do?" Devadatta thought, "If I say I will not renounce the world now, Good Protector will not give up the throne; if I promise to renounce the world now, after they have renounced the world, I will not renounce the world and then rule the country. Let's arrange it that way." So he said, "If you all renounce the world, what am I supposed to do?" King Good Protector thought, "Devadatta is lying, so I must make him take an oath and let everyone know." So he announced, "Listen, you wise people, Good Protector, Ocean Born, Unobstructed One, and Devadatta, etc., up to five hundred Shakyas, these people will renounce the world, please rejoice!" They each took tokens and announced it among all the people gathered. After that, Devadatta felt great suffering, thinking, "If I don't renounce the world now, I will be a liar, and I won't get the throne either, so I will renounce the world for now and rule the country later." After that, King Śuddhodana cleaned the city and also gathered the fortune tellers. The Shakyas each used their own wealth to hold the renunciation ceremony, to see who among the five hundred Shakyas had the least wealth, the Shakya men and women and people from various places gathered. At the east gate of the city, a lion throne was placed.

After the arrangements were complete, the king himself sat in state, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of attendants. There, initially, King Bhadra adorned himself and arrived in a chariot. The diviners, having examined him, prophesied: "This one will please the teacher." When Devadatta arrived, the ruby on his head, mistaken for flesh and jewels, was carried away by an eagle. (The diviners prophesied) "This one, being hostile to the teacher, will go to hell." Also, when Kokalika, Khanda Bird, Katamora Katatishya, and Samudradatta came out, making donkey-like sounds, (the diviners prophesied) "These ones, having spoken ill of the holy ones, will go to hell." Nanda, riding an elephant, looked at each other, and a pearl necklace fell onto the elephant, which picked it up. (The diviners prophesied) "This one, being exceedingly greedy, will be born in hell." Others, such as boats and those who were unimpeded, were mostly prophesied to be auspicious. The five hundred Shakyas, as if going to a festival in a pleasure garden, competed to show their excellence and went to where the Blessed One was. Then, the teacher thought: "Ordination by 'Come hither' is certain only for those who are the last existence (referring to those who will not be reborn). Among these, there are those who are not the last existence and those who do not please the Tathagata." Therefore, the teacher thought to have them ordained and given the full ordination through the Sangha's four karmas, and he gave the same order to the Sangha. When they were being shaved, the barber Ananda was the messenger of King Suddhodana. When he was shaving King Bhadra, he was filled with tears and said: "I, who serve the chief of men, will now have to serve ordinary people." King Bhadra said to him: "Do not grieve, I will make it so that you do not have to serve ordinary people." Having said this, Bhadra said to the Shakyas: "The barber Ananda has shown us respect, and we will no longer return to our homes and do not need ornaments. For his livelihood, give him all our ornaments." Having said this, on a large cloth, the ornaments of the five hundred Shakyas were piled up, forming a great mountain of jewels. Then, Ananda for the five hundred Shakyas

The Buddhas of the three times have come, and we sentient beings feel ashamed. If the gods come in the morning, we should go in the afternoon. Later, the great minister thought of reporting to King Śuddhodana, but could not do so personally. Only after reporting through the Lady Prajapati did Śuddhodana agree. After that, when the king did not come in the morning or afternoon, the women would go to listen to the Dharma. Once, Lady Prajapati, surrounded by five hundred Śākya women, went to listen to the Dharma. The wife of the great minister also went, adorned with all kinds of ornaments. Ānanda saw this and said, "These people are not all free from desire, and it is not good to come adorned." So she took off her ornaments and gave them to the maidservant wet nurse to send home. The maidservant also quickly returned, and when the Blessed One was teaching them the Dharma, one Śākya woman was not paying attention to the Dharma, but was looking at her pearl necklace and cherishing it. The wife of the great minister saw this and thought, "Although the Buddha said that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, does she still crave these things? If she sees my pearl necklace, her pride will disappear." So she said to the maidservant wet nurse, "Take a small portion of my pearl necklace and give it to her." The maidservant wet nurse was focused on listening to the Dharma, and thought, "Alas, to be a slave is so painful, and there is no opportunity to listen to the Dharma like this." So she also spoke a verse. The Blessed One knew that this maidservant, although she had done service to the Buddha, did not have a long life, so he wrote a verse of Dharma and gave it to her. She was very happy, and left with a heart of devotion to the Buddha, but on the way she was beaten to death by a scavenger. Immediately after death, she was reborn in the sacred womb of the queen of the king of the island of Sinhala (Sri Lanka). Later, when she was born, a rain of pearls also fell. Therefore, she was named Princess Pearl. The continuation of this story will be told later. Although this event did not happen immediately after the meeting of father and son, it seems to have happened not long after. Also, the Blessed One was staying in Prince Jeta's garden, teaching the Dharma with the ordained near-disciples, and the five hundred Śākyas who had previously ordained, for the sake of mental liberation.

Acting as a teacher, most people, except for a few like Devadatta and Kokalika, soon attained the Arhatship. Forty-second, the ordination of the younger brother Nanda: Later, at another time, the Blessed One was staying in the Nyagrodha Grove in Kapilavastu. At that time, the Blessed One had a younger brother named Nanda, who, apart from the crown of the head and the white hair between the eyebrows, possessed the thirty-two major marks, his body was four fingers shorter than the teacher's, and he was prophesied to be a powerful Chakravartin. He had a very beautiful wife named Pundarika, who was skilled in the wiles of women, and he was particularly infatuated with her, spending his days in this way. Knowing that the time had come to tame him, one morning the Blessed One went to his house for alms and stood outside the door. Then, he emitted a golden light that illuminated the house, and Nanda, knowing that the teacher had come, was about to go out when, fearing ordination, his wife grabbed the hem of Nanda's garment to stop him, but he forcibly broke free, leaving water stains on the garment, and she said, "Do not go until this is dry! Otherwise, I will fine you five hundred gold coins!" After that, Nanda came out and prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One, took the bowl, went inside, filled it with excellent food, and went to offer it to the Tathagata. But the Tathagata did not accept it, but followed him as before, and did not signal to the Venerable Ananda to accept it either, and then followed him back to the Nyagrodha Grove to offer alms. The Blessed One himself ate the leftovers and gave them to Nanda, and as he was eating and sitting, he said, "Why do you not ordain? Ordain!" From the time the Tathagata first generated the mind of enlightenment, he has never violated the Dharma of anyone, whether it be a Khenpo, an Acharya, a father, a mother, or someone worthy of respect, and because he is very strict with the precepts, he could not disobey the Buddha's command, so he requested the Blessed One, "Blessed One, I wish to ordain." Then the teacher said, "Shave his hair." So he called the barber outside and began to shave, and the barber thought to himself, "This person will soon become a powerful Chakravartin...
