The householder requested: "I will build a monastery no matter what." The Bhagavan did not speak, indicating his consent. Thirty-ninth, the construction of Jeta Grove: Then, Anathapindika (Mgon-med zas-sbyin), having completed the tasks he needed to accomplish in Rajagriha, came to pay homage at the Teacher's feet and requested: "Please grant me a monk as a companion." Prince Jeta did not agree. After being asked three times, Prince Jeta said on the third time: "Even if you cover the grove with gold dust, I will not give it up." Anathapindika said: "Prince, since the value of Jeta Grove has been determined, let's spread gold with gold." Then, the two of them argued over whether the value had been determined or not. The appearance of the Buddha is supreme. If this person spends so much wealth for Jetavana, I should also do a little." Thinking, "Then, give me this piece of land where gold has not been spread! I will also build a gatehouse." After discussing, he reached a consensus with the householder and the young man. After that, when the monastery was being built, the heretics gathered and came to Anathapindika and said, "Hey! We have already divided the city. The city of the ascetic Gautama is Rajagriha, and our city is Shravasti. For Gautama's sake, do not build a monastery!" The householder said to them, "Even if you have divided the city, you have not divided my property, so I will build the Dharma aggregate that I like most." After that, they went to the king and argued as before. Although they were defeated by the householder's arguments, they still chattered and said all kinds of things, not allowing the monastery to be built as they pleased. "Compete in ability with the foremost of Gautama's Shravakas! If he wins, then build it!" The householder asked Shariputra for advice. Shariputra knew that there were roots of virtue in the minds of those heretics, and also knew that subduing them depended on himself, so he agreed to the householder. But it would be seven days later. He told the heretics. After they discussed, they thought that instead of showing their ability now, they should postpone the time, either this person will run away, or they will look for helpers. If they run away, then it will be over, so for now, let's also look for helpers! So they all dispersed, counting the days, and eagerly looking for helpers.

While searching for a place, they found a person named "Wandering Red Eyes," who was extremely skilled in illusion, and asked for his help. There, many people who were to be tamed gathered every day. After seven days, a very wide area was covered with mats. The venerable Shariputra sat on a lion throne, with a smile on his face, and looked at the people to be tamed. Then, when countless heretics and spectators gathered, "Wandering Red Eyes" conjured a tree full of Saha Kara flowers. The venerable Shariputra sent out red winds and heavy rain, uprooting, breaking, and destroying the trees. He also conjured a lotus pond, conjured many elephants, stirred, trampled, and made it disappear without a trace. When he released a seven-headed snake, he conjured many Garudas, who devoured them. Finally, when he cast a corpse spell, the venerable Shariputra struck the corpse with a stake. This is the nature of Dharma: if a corpse is released and the opponent strikes it with a stake, the one who released it will be killed. Therefore, the corpse returned and chased the heretics, including Red Eyes. They were terrified and had no other protector, so they sought refuge in the venerable Shariputra. When the venerable Shariputra pulled out the stake, the corpse subsided. After that, "Wandering Red Eyes" took ordination out of faith, received full ordination, listened to the Dharma, and eventually became an Arhat. The venerable Shariputra taught the Dharma to all the assembled retinues according to their minds, and countless gods and humans saw the truth and, according to their abilities, inclined towards the three types of Bodhi. Still, many heretics who had not seen the truth wanted to find an opportunity, so they came to the householder Anathapindika, lamenting and saying, "Please hire us to build a temple!" The householder, knowing this, agreed and let them do so. Once, while they were working, the venerable Shariputra was walking and resting near a tree. When there was no one else around, those heretics thought of strangling the venerable Shariputra, hanging him on a tree, and killing him, so they took a rope.
