Just as cultivating the field well results in the ripening of fruit, relying on the empowerment of a completely pure self-continuum and not violating the vows will produce results. However, it is not enough to simply leave the fruit, such as barley, as it is. Just as harvesting the crop, threshing the grain, winnowing it, and pounding it are necessary to make it edible, so too, if the Guru's instructions are practiced in a place free from obstacles, one will gain uncommon experiences and ultimately attain Buddhahood. Furthermore, one should practice like a beggar and like a wild animal. First, in an unfamiliar place, one should disguise oneself as an ordinary person, pretending to know nothing, and practice restraint. Not boasting of one's own qualities to others is a sign of being free from desire and arrogance. Not questioning others' doctrines is a sign of having no doubt in one's own instructions. Practicing like a wild animal means going to a solitary place or a charnel ground, a place free from external disturbances, and abandoning three activities to practice. That is, abandoning external physical activities such as work and farming. This relaxes the body, which relaxes the pulse, which allows the wind to flow naturally, which prevents the arising of discursive thoughts. Abandoning verbal activities, ceasing excessive talking, and cutting off speech will cause the inexpressible meaning to arise in one's own continuum. Abandoning all mental activities, relinquishing all discursive thoughts, and focusing on the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu will allow one to directly see the nature of reality. So, how should one practice? There are two kinds of wisdom: consciousness and awareness. There is practice with consciousness that focuses on objects, and there is practice with awareness that focuses on self-appearance. First, there is the teaching on names and order: among them are the yoga of conduct, the step, the view, and the yogi who constantly practices the fruit. First, the yoga of constantly engaging in conduct: the conduct of mastering appearances, the key instruction for which is the method of naked appearance. What kind of view arises from this? The view of establishing appearance and existence as the basis arises, which transforms afflictions. There are three types of such conduct: the initial conduct is to abstain from the ten non-virtues and practice the ten virtues in order. Then, with the conduct of distinguishing between samsara and nirvana, body, speech, and mind...

It is brought to the complete measure. Although there are twenty-one practices of a yogi's wind-control conduct, here they are condensed into seven: First, like a bee searching for a hive, comparing from all doors, distinguishing between what is heard as Dharma and what is not, and identifying what should be abandoned and the antidotes. Then, suppressing afflictions with thought, and uprooting afflictions from their roots with meditation. Its companion is being without doubt, like a bird entering its nest: Just as when a bird enters its nest, it first breaks off human feathers and then enters without error; first, through hearing, severing the additions, and then taking a secret instruction in which one has confidence as a chosen deity and practicing it. Its companion is a practice not used by everyone, like a wounded wild animal: Just as a wounded wild animal, because of the pain of its wound, flees into the mountains and, in any case, stays alone in a cave or on a mountainside; so too, the yogi, because of fear of samsara, in any case, should stay alone in a place where people do not go, such as a charnel ground. At that time, there is a practice of being speechless, like a mute: Just as a mute cannot speak, one should cut off speech and not say anything. Having done that, there arises an unpredictable practice, like a madman: Like the words of a madman, unconnected and broken words arise spontaneously. At that time, there arises a practice of being without cleanliness, like a dog or pig: There is a confused enjoyment of food, without distinguishing between good and bad. When all of that is complete, there arises an invincible practice, like a lion: Just as a lion has no fear or hesitation towards anything, so too, the yogi is separated from appearances and other aspects, and is able to control appearances. If these practices are named, they are called the practice of controlling inner appearances, which can transform the disbelief of others, can revive the dead, can have magical powers, and can control the four elements, and so on. Its instruction is the method of leaving appearances naked: Dharmata, by training in outer appearances, nature is completely purified; dharmata fragments, by training, the image is completely purified. The first is produced from nakedly placing on top of whatever appears. At this time,
