As the Bhagavan contemplated, the Bodhisattva Vajrapani reported: "Bhagavan, in Jambudvipa, there is a dragon king named Youthful Fierce, possessing a thousand magical powers and a billion emanations. He also takes away the lives and breaths of sentient beings, and with frost, hail, famine, and so on, he renders Jambudvipa without luster, causing all beings in Jambudvipa to be terrified and scattered, and even destroys the Buddha's teachings. Bhagavan, please subdue him, subdue him with your great wisdom and great compassion." After reporting thus, the Bhagavan arose from samadhi and said: "Vajrapani, do not be afraid or terrified. In the past, in the world, when all the fierce wrathful ones or malicious ones were about to destroy the world, they were subdued by compassion and blessings. Here too, he will be subdued like a servant. Tell the retinue not to weaken the power of samadhi." Having said this, he entered into the samadhi of subduing the dragon king. Then, Vajrapani Bodhisattva reported to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, the three realms are almost destroyed, all crops and flowers have withered, the great city has become a wasteland, and for five hundred years it has been destroyed by hail, so that not even a blade of grass remains. Please go to his abode with compassion and samadhi to subdue him." After reporting thus, the Bhagavan replied: "Vajrapani, well done. Go with your retinue to the house without grass. I have already blessed you on how to subdue him." Having said this, he arose from samadhi. Then, the Bhagavan, along with the great yaksha general Vajrapani and his retinue, dwelt in the place of the dragon king without grass. His body shrank, his hairs stood on end, and his body trembled, unable to bear the splendor of the Blessed One. Overwhelmed by anger and ferocity, he said, "Who is this other enemy who has come to my house? Who is able to contend with the great Naga? I will inhale life and breath and devour! I will seize life! I will exhale breath! I will send diseases! I will rain down swords and wooden clubs! I will also rain down thunderbolts!" Thus he spoke, and the Naga King Sogmamé, enraged, began to fight. In his anger, he emitted a roar of laughter, contracted his eyebrows, distorted his face, curled his tongue, raised his hair, and caused terror. Holding a weapon in his hand, he emitted a great clamorous sound, releasing a great and terrible lightning flash. Then, the Yaksha general Vajrapani said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, even in your presence, those nagas are difficult to subdue, and they send down unbearable vajra thunderbolts, send down mountain hail, destroy all crops, send hail, clouds, clouds that produce wind, and emit lightning. Blessed One, for the sake of those unruly beings in the future, why not send down a rain of burning fire, and send forth blazing flames and flowing lightning? Send down a rain of swords, clubs, wheels, and short spears. Blessed One, the sounds of the nagas also steal the essence of all crops, steal the radiance of all beings, and even take life. Blessed One, in such a situation, merely by reciting or remembering, the bodies of all nagas will be shattered, the hearts of all nagas will be broken, and by reciting it seven times, all nagas will be cut into fifty pieces, and all the Naga kings will be destroyed, and likewise, all the wicked, all the rebellious, and enemies will be utterly destroyed, decayed, ruined, charred, and their bodies will be burned, and so on. Therefore, I speak thus. To this, Blessed One, how can beings obtain happiness, and how can all nagas be subdued? Please bless this. Accomplished by reading the thoughts of the mandala, without practice, merely reciting the mantra is immediately effective, not combined with dates, not combined with constellations, not combined with illness, and this activity does not require practice. If you want it to be effective, just recite the wrathful king himself. Then, the great wrathful Vajrapani said: The great wrathful one is the inexhaustible essence of the vajra fist, the taker of the life of all wrathful ones and nagas, possessing great power, speaking the vows of all nagas.
