The recognition and realization of the essence are simultaneous, not relying on the three wisdoms. The cessation of nature and liberation are simultaneous, not relying on the power of habituation. The characteristic is that becoming a Buddha and the arising of compassion are simultaneous, not relying on the two accumulations. Furthermore, the utterly secret and supreme is that the essence is not knowable, not relying on the knower. The nature is directly seen, the Dharma nature does not abide in mental conception. The characteristic is that the four appearances do not expect future results, but merge into the primordial base realm in this very life. Regarding such a principle, the expressive word lineage has two myriads of thousands, the chapters have thirty-five thousand, the shlokas have sixty-four hundred thousand, the key points have five thousand thousands, there are eight great pith instructions, one hundred and eighty minor pith instructions, nine hundred thousand obstacles, seventy thousand discriminations, and one and a half hundred thousand repetitions, etc. The spoken and the speaker are taught to be equal to the limit of space. All three divisions of the pith instructions are included in the three spaces: the space where play does not cease, the space where wisdom is not liberated, and the three spaces where the essence has neither good nor bad. The essence of the pith instructions is also: unlocking the key points, closing the obstacles, recognizing the essence, and manifestly placing oneself in the self-key point. Thus, as the essence of all teachings, the Great Perfection pith instruction division's tradition holds that each individual's own awareness is the object to be experienced as wisdom, and also the manner of transcending the mind, which is the nature of the eight consciousness aggregates with outflows. As it is said in 'The Lion's Complete Strength': Mind and wisdom are not actual traces of habit, even though wisdom is separated from all traces of habit, the mind accumulates various traces of habit. If mind and wisdom are not separated, the root of the appearance of objects cannot be severed, and even the pure Dharma nature free from conditions is difficult to realize. And in Naropa's 'Means of Accomplishing Suchness' it is also said: This self-awareness of Bodhicitta, due to the power of habituation and delusion, even if examined with discriminating thought, is accomplished as it is without multiplicity. Although the habits of mind appear outwardly, the luminosity of awareness does not change. And, conceptual thought is separated from the movement of mind, self-awareness and luminosity are without grasping. In short, all that appears, sounds, and is thought of is the doing of the mind.

Manifestation, which is the mind that grasps the individual characteristics of all phenomena of samsara. The Noble Hundred Thousand Verses also states, "Mind has no mind; the nature of mind is luminosity." This explains that the nature of mind, which transcends worldly mind and mental factors, has the same meaning as the previous statement. Furthermore, the Noble Heap of Jewels Sutra states, "Also separate from mind, intellect, and consciousness, and also not abandoning the state of samadhi, this is the inconceivable secret of the Tathagata's heart." The Noble Nagarjuna also said, "Because there is no mind, there is also no dharma; likewise, there is no body or realm. Thus, the path of non-duality is well explained in that very place." All these extensive statements refer to the awareness that transcends the mind. Such awareness, from beginningless time, has not been tainted in its own nature by any phenomena of samsara. Therefore, the cause of clinging to existence is exhausted, and it is primordially liberated. Without being altered by any antidote, whatever arises is like a snake knot unraveling itself, self-liberated without relying on another liberator. All of the eight consciousness aggregates are without the duality of object and subject, and in an instant, like a thunderbolt, they are naturally liberated, hence directly liberated. Not abiding in the three times or any knowable object, it is ultimately liberated. Thus, abiding in the state of the four great liberations, one's own awareness, the self-arisen wisdom, is ascertained as the unique characteristic of this path, and it is to be realized accordingly. Among these, khechö (khregs chod), which exhausts the phenomena of emptiness by transforming awareness into freedom from elaboration through the purity of emptiness, and lhüngdrub (lhun grub), which exhausts the nature of phenomena by causing coarse matter to arise as luminosity through spontaneous perfection. The first of these two is: the intention of this supreme vehicle, which is the nature of awareness, the nature of being free from bondage and liberation, the primordially pure nature itself, which is unaltered, not cut off in any way, and whose own nature cannot be designated as this nature, hence not falling into any direction, and being free from conceptual thought, it is the naked awareness that transcends thought and expression, which is emptiness. In the stage of the path, it cannot be expressed by words or letters, hence it is signless. In the stage of the result, there is no hope or fear of attainment, hence it is wishless. From the aspect of awareness, enlightenment
