The six lineages of Amitabha (འོད་དཔག་མེད་ཀྱི།), Dondup (དོན་གྲུབ་ཀྱི།), and Vajradhara (རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་གི་); similarly, in the Mother Tantra aspect, the six lineages of Vajrasattva (རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའི།), Vairochana (རྣམ་སྣང་གི།), Vajra Sun (རྡོ་རྗེ་ཉི་མའི།), Padmagarawang (པདྨ་གར་དབང་གི།), Hayagriva (རྟ་མཆོག་གི།), and Heruka (ཧེ་རུ་ཀའི་). Combining these divisions results in twelve categories of tantras. Further division leads to countless lineages, and consequently, tantras become numerous. In essence, they are all encompassed within the two, method and wisdom, which in turn are inseparable from the two, generation and completion stages. These are all intrinsically included within the Great Perfection. Within this, the Nyingma school elaborates on the three, generation and completion stages. Firstly, Maha Yoga, the Great Yoga, establishes the reality of the root tantra as the view to be realized. This cannot be established through philosophical speculation or apparent wisdom, but through the three universally valid means of cognition, and must be realized through self-cognizant direct perception. The reasons for this establishment are the four realizations, the three purities, the four equalities, and the reason of the great essence. The first is, as stated in the Heart Essence Tantra: "The same cause and the form of syllables, blessings and direct perception, through the four supreme realizations, all is the perfectly complete great king." Therefore, through the reason of the same cause, all phenomena are established as self-arisen and unborn. Through the reason of the form of syllables, all phenomena are established as playful and unceasing. Through the reason of blessing, all phenomena are established as inseparable in essence. Through the reason of direct perception, all phenomena are established as free from characteristics and conceptualization. These are the reasons of the four realizations. The second is, "Vessels and contents, tantras, all are realized as pure," therefore, through the reason of the three purities, all external and internal vessels and contents, aggregates, elements, and sense bases are established as great purity. The third is, "Equality of two and surpassing two, mandalas are the field of Samantabhadra," therefore, through the reason of the four equalities, all phenomena included within relative and ultimate truth are established as great equality. The fourth is, "Self-arisen wisdom, unlocalized appearance," therefore, through the reason of the great essence, all phenomena are established as the essence of the single great self-arisen wisdom of mind itself.

From the very beginning, it is determined that the manifest realization of the nature of the continuum of self-nature through the means of measurement is the uncommon tenet of the great yogis. As the Ocean Tantra says: "Like a clear image in the ocean, without focusing on the sound image, self-awareness is manifest, free from elaboration, self-illuminating, free from the three, unwavering, surely giving rise to conviction, the culmination of hearing, thinking, and meditating on the view." And as the Wrathful Lightning Tantra says: "When manifest awareness is decided, yoga reaches the ground." Thus, based on the certainty of the meaning of the view, there are two stages: the path of means and the stage of liberation. The first of these is also described as: "The path of liberation is shown as a means." Therefore, by engaging in actions that bind, one obtains the fruit of liberation. Primarily, the difference in means is that the practice of asceticism quickly accomplishes the extraordinary result. Therefore, whatever asceticism involves the practice of trampling without abandoning the three poisons, if practiced with the certainty of the view, not only does it not bind, but it quickly obtains the fruit of liberation. If it is not practiced in this way, not only will liberation not be obtained, but there is a great danger of falling into the lower realms, like the union of Makashika, with great benefit and harm. Such a path of means has two aspects, as it is said: "The upper and lower doors of the instructions." Therefore, the former is practiced gradually, relying on the six chakras of the upper door of one's own body, experiencing the wisdom of great bliss through the union of blazing and dripping, as taught in the Ocean of Explanatory Tantras. The latter is practiced suddenly, relying on the lower door of another's body, the secret place of the dakini, through the four unions of approaching, nearly approaching, practicing, and greatly practicing, forcibly generating the wisdom of bliss and emptiness in an instant, which is the path of sudden completion of the ground and path, as taught in the Ashes of Explanatory Tantras. Secondly, the path of liberation is mainly determined and realized by the three wisdoms, and the bonds of one's own continuum are naturally liberated, thereby being liberated into the realm of reality. Although there is no difference in speed like the path of means, when it comes to uniting with the result, there is no difference and the benefit and harm are small, like the precious Among these, there are also two types, sudden and gradual, depending on the capacity of the individual.
