Therefore, the collection of these is skillful means and wisdom, and the collection of these, which is of one taste, is the mind of enlightenment. That is also the samadhi of Vajrasattva, and that itself is the vajra. Since it is both vajra and vehicle, it is called Vajrayana, which means the vehicle of mantra. The term "unsurpassed" means that it has become the supreme of all vehicles. Thus it is said. The noble Avalokiteśvara said in the Immaculate Light: "Vajra is the indivisible wisdom, the inconceivable mind vajra. Whoever possesses it is the Vajra Holder." Thus it is said. Vajra is the great indivisible and unbreakable, and that itself is the vehicle, so Vajrayana is the principle of mantra, and the principle of pāramitā, where the nature of the fruit and the cause are mixed into one. Thus it is said. Vajrayana is the vehicle of the perfectly complete Buddha, and because it cannot be broken by the vehicles of tirthikas, śrāvakas, and pratyekabuddhas, it is called Vajrayana, and it is called Vajrayana because it goes to liberation by this. Thus, it is widely spoken. Furthermore, the word Tantra means to protect the mind, because "citta" means mind and "trāya" means to protect. As it is said in the Difficult Explanation of Yeshe Den: "It protects the mind from conceptual thoughts, therefore it is called a continuum. Because it has become a collection or class of continuums, it is called a Tantra Division." Thus it appears. Furthermore, like the strings of a lute, it means to remain continuously, that is, from sentient beings to Buddhas, the nature of the mind, the self-nature, is completely pure, and it is connected continuously because it is gathered by the three, base, path, and fruit, therefore it is a continuum. The Guhyasamāja says: "Continuum is called continuous. That continuum transforms into three aspects. The base and its own nature, well distinguished by non-stealing. The aspect of self-nature is the cause, the base is called skillful means. Likewise, non-stealing is the fruit, the meaning of the continuum is gathered by the three." Thus it is said. The Later Heart Essence Continuum says: "Continuum is said to be continuous, the fruit is from skillful means and cause." Thus it is said. That itself appears as the three, base, path, and fruit, depending on whether it is grasped or not grasped by the condition of skillful means.

E! What is to be realized is the continuum of the basis or cause; what is realized and practiced by it is the continuum of means or path; what is ultimately achieved in it is the continuum of the result. These three, in terms of what is said, are the continuum of the basis and the result, and in terms of what can be said, are the continuum of means or path. By those mantras and their rituals, all the needs of the world and beyond are accomplished. As the Vajrasekhara Sutra says: "Because there is no separation and no deficiency, it is called a continuum because it is complete." So it is. So, what is the continuum of the basis? That which has been transmitted from beginningless time, the luminous nature of the mind, and the mind and mental factors, as well as the nature of the vessel and its contents, the channels, winds, elements, and the realm of phenomena, in general, the main thing is: the basis, the self-awareness of the state of being without bondage or liberation, the mind of enlightenment, the indivisible truth, beyond the realm of mind, the self-luminous nature that has always existed, that is, the special characteristics of the fields, bodies, wisdoms, etc., that are in accordance with the laws of the result, the great bliss of self-nature, which is constant and uninterrupted, and is naturally obtained by the nature of reality, that is, possessing the four special qualities, that itself becomes the basis or cause of both samsara and nirvana depending on whether it is realized or not, however, since the nature does not change and is constant, it is called the continuum of cause. That is, in terms of its being the nature of the Buddha, it is the Tathagatagarbha; in terms of emptiness, it is the qualities of the Dharmakaya; in terms of appearance, it is the qualities of the Rupakaya, and it abides in the ability to manifest, so it is the self-existent lineage; because it is the source of both samsara and nirvana, it is the Alaya-jnana; the reality of the self of Kriya; the view of the deity of the Vajradhatu of the relative, blessed by the ultimate signlessness of Upa and Yoga; the unsurpassed Dharmakaya of the indivisible two truths of Mahayoga; the mandala of the root Bodhicitta of the son continuum, the indivisible realm and wisdom of Anuyoga; the basis of whatever name is expressed, such as the three essences of Atiyoga, nature, and compassion, that is, in particular, in the center of the wheel of Dharma in the hearts of sentient beings, in the center of the five pure elements, the support of the continuum of the cause.
