Those born from the causes of various characteristics are consciousness. The characteristic that transcends both characteristics and the absence of characteristics is wisdom. Furthermore, the characteristic of great intelligence and so on is consciousness. The characteristic of abandonment is wisdom. There are three aspects to this: understanding one's own and common characteristics, understanding birth and death, and understanding the absence of birth and the absence of cessation. Worldly wisdom is the attachment to the aspects of existence and non-existence by non-Buddhists and all ordinary people. Transcendent wisdom is the attachment to thoughts that fall into self and common characteristics by hearers, solitary realizers, and all beings. The supreme transcendent wisdom is the complete discernment of the unmanifested Dharma by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, seeing the unborn and the unceasing, and being free from the aspects of existence and non-existence, arising because the Tathagatas have realized the masterless ground. Furthermore, great intelligence, the characteristic of non-attachment is wisdom. That which has the characteristic of attachment to various objects is consciousness. Furthermore, great intelligence, the function of the aggregation of the three, that which has the characteristic of having birth is consciousness. The characteristic of the nature of non-possession is wisdom. Furthermore, great intelligence, the characteristic of non-attainment is wisdom, because the object of practice realized by my own self-aware noble wisdom does not arise or enter, like the moon in water. Therefore, it should be said: By whom does the mind perform actions and so on? Wisdom discerns. Wisdom also makes the invisible appear, and power is also greatly attained. The mind is connected with objects. Thus, it is extensively taught, and similarly, in the Noble Cloud of Jewels Sutra, it says: This Dharma is completely beyond all letters, completely beyond all speech, completely beyond the sphere of all words, completely beyond all paths of language, free from all elaboration, free from all acceptance and rejection, opening and closing.

Free from all extremes, free from all conceptualizations, not to be examined, not the domain of conceptualization, completely beyond the domain of conceptualization, without characteristics, free from characteristics, completely beyond the domain of characteristics, completely beyond the domain of children, completely beyond the realm of all demons, completely beyond the domain of all afflictions, completely beyond the domain of consciousness, not a place, not abiding, peaceful, the domain of noble wisdom. Those are known individually by themselves, without impurity, without defilement, and completely pure, excellent, supreme, sacred, superior, constant, stable, enduring, of indestructible nature. Whether the Tathagatas appear or not, the essence of Dharma is only abiding. Like this and so on, extensively showing the inconceivable nature of the ultimate noble wisdom, these do not abide on the path accepted by the Mind-Only school, because they accept that the self-aware and self-illuminating awareness, which is free from the duality of grasper and grasped, is the very root cause of Buddhahood, and because they believe that the other-empty subject is real, therefore, it is very difficult for those who believe that consciousness is substantially existent to truly understand the absence of self in phenomena as it is. As it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: 'It is only mind, there is no appearance. Because there is no appearance, there is no birth. This Middle Way is taught by me and others. If one understands that it is only mind, and eliminates external objects, when discrimination ceases, that path is the Middle Way.' As it is said, just as the final intention of the Buddha's words abides in the ultimate Middle Way, this has been clearly explained in their own treatises by the commentaries of the great Bodhisattvas and the two charioteers (Nagarjuna and Asanga) of the Great Vehicle and their followers. However, some teachers may say other different statements due to necessary reasons, but it is difficult to determine whether those statements are the realm of ordinary beings or noble ones. If it is established that they are abiding in the position of noble ones, then there may be occasions when they say so with other different intentions, therefore, we ordinary people should not hold on to one extreme and accumulate the evil karma of abandoning the Dharma, that is the key point. If there are three natures here
