Therefore, the benefits of making a field of merit are immeasurable. It is taught in all Sutras and Tantras. In particular, the Dharmakaya of the Sugata, which is encompassed by the two, the expressible and the inexpressible, the former being the side of peaceful Nirvana, abides in the scriptures that are the expressible, and is nothing other than that. Therefore, writing down the sacred Dharma, holding and keeping it, reading and fully understanding it, and making offerings, respect, service, and not forgetting it, the accumulation of benefits from these is said to be incomparable to any other virtuous deed. For example, in the Hundred Thousand Verses of the Mother, it says: "Whatever son or daughter of good family, after the Tathagata has completely passed into Nirvana, in order to make offerings, fills the three thousand great thousand worlds with stupas made of the seven precious substances, each stupa being one krosha in height and half a krosha in width. And until the end of their lives, they serve, honor, respect, and make offerings with divine flowers, divine garlands (Sanskrit: mālā, Devanagari: माला, Romanization: mālā, meaning: garland), divine incense, divine unguents, divine powders, divine Dharma robes, divine clothes, divine umbrellas, divine banners, divine flags, and many divine musical instruments. Kaushika, what do you think of this? Will the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly?" Indra replied: "Bhagavan, it will increase greatly. Sugata, it will increase greatly." The Bhagavan said: "Kaushika, even more so, any son or daughter of good family who holds, keeps, reads, and fully understands this Prajnaparamita, and properly attends to it, and serves, honors, respects, and makes offerings with flowers, garlands (Sanskrit: mālā, Devanagari: माला, Romanization: mālā, meaning: garland), incense, unguents, powders, clothes, umbrellas, banners, flags, and various musical instruments, their merit will increase even more.
