Not born. If born, then its body will have suffering, so it arises first, then afflictions arise, so accumulation arises. These two, the cause and effect of samsara, are ceased, so cessation arises. After ceasing, the fruit of nirvana is attained, so the path arises. The order must be determined, so the fault of randomness should be abandoned. Abandon it. Accumulation is the cause of samsara, and suffering is the fruit of samsara, these two. Suffering should be understood. Accumulation should be abandoned. Cessation should be realized. The path should be cultivated in the continuum. Similarly, the path is the cause of nirvana, and cessation is definitely the fruit. If considered from the common perspective of both Hinayana and Mahayana, it can be divided into sixteen truths. If divided from the perspective of Mahayana. According to Mahayana, there are one hundred and seventy-three aspects. Here, from the perspective of the Hearers, the sixteen truths are explained. This is the path practiced by the Hearers. Sanskrit Romanization: duḥkhamatyaṃsa, Chinese literal meaning: suffering) is the truth of suffering. Among conditioned phenomena with outflows, the pleasant ones will become suffering due to change, the unpleasant ones will become suffering due to suffering, and other phenomena besides these will become suffering due to the suffering of conditioned phenomena. Therefore, the five aggregates possess three sufferings, so it is called the truth of suffering. The truth is impermanent. There are outer and inner. The outer has two, distant and near. The distant is to contemplate the corpse in the charnel ground, remembering emptiness and meditating. The near is to meditate on the impermanence of the death of sentient beings. The outer is the charnel ground, the death of sentient beings. The inner impermanence is the arising of the continuum. The inner meditation on impermanence is that there are three certainties of death: it is certain that all people born before have died, it is certain that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, and it is certain that life does not stay even for a moment. There are three uncertainties of when death will occur: because there are many causes of death, because the body has no essence, and because life has no leisure. There are three things that death will never fail to do: relatives and friends will not, food and wealth will not, and one's own body will not fail. Meditate on the advice of death. Generally, suffering is the suffering of suffering, is change and is conditioned. The three sufferings are: the suffering of suffering.

The suffering of change, the suffering of conditioning! The first is like a boil on a leper for animals and so on, on top of being born as an animal, they are exploited by humans. The second is for humans, the changes in the first and last parts of life and so on. The third is for everyone, being tormented by food, clothing, and so on. Alas! The eight sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death are like being pulled out of the eye of birth, like a thorny burden falling down. Aging is like a withered tree. Sickness is like drinking poison. Death is like going into the darkness. Enmity and jealousy are like chicks threatened by a hawk. Fearing separation from loved ones is like fearing the death of an only child. Searching for what is not there and not finding it is like a preta suffering from extreme thirst. Not being able to take care of what one has is like an old woman herding sheep. And death. Enemies, relatives, having and not having. Alas! Gods have falling and long life, and the fighting of asuras. Gods fall, asuras fight. What does not change is that humans have happiness in the first part of life, but the suffering of change in the last part of life. Animals are like having a boil on a leper, carrying loads, plucking wool, milking, the suffering of being killed for meat and blood! Animal, boil on a leper. The appearance of hunger and thirst of pretas. For pretas, food and drink have external obscurations, food and drink are seen as pus and blood. Internal obscurations are that they cannot enter. Special obscurations are that the throat is like the eye of a needle, the stomach is like a region, and so on. The appearance of hot and cold hells. All phenomena of the outer and inner world, the nature of complete realization. The self-grasping of dharma and person, clinging to the cause is not there. There are eight hot hells: Black Line, Crushing, Saṃjīva(梵文天城体),Saṃjīva(梵文罗马拟音),संजीव(汉语字面意思:Rebirth), Howling, Great Howling, Hot, Very Hot, Uninterrupted. There are eight cold hells: Achuza, Sonam Thama, Chubur Chen, Chubur Dol, cracking like a lotus, cracking like a great lotus, cracking like an Utpala(梵文天城体),Utpala(梵文罗马拟音),उत्पल(汉语字面意思:Blue Lotus), cracking like a great Utpala(梵文天城体),Utpala(梵文罗马拟音),उत्पल(汉语字面意思:Blue Lotus), Nearby, Close by. There are two causes of arising: the cause of the five desires and the faults of clinging to them. The cause is the desire for the five desires, attachment, and extreme craving. That is, the desire to obtain what is desired, clinging and attachment to what is obtained, and extreme craving for it. Hatred arising from wanting to obtain what has not been obtained.
