That which abides primordially, without ever being separated from its state, the self-aware Bodhicitta, inseparable from the truth, free from objects of experience, is the basis to which terms such as: the essence of the Sugata realm, the lineage abiding by nature, the Alaya-jnana, and the Suchness with defilements, are applied. When that itself is generally posited without being associated with any of the three aspects of ground, path, and fruition, it is nature or state; when it is viewed in relation to the purification of adventitious defilements and the manifestation through the power of removal, it is posited as path and fruition. Why does it become the continuum of the ground or cause? Because it accomplishes Samsara and Nirvana by being grasped and not grasped by the conditions of skillful means, therefore, it is the source or cause of both Samsara and Nirvana; and because it continuously exists from sentient beings to Buddhas without changing its nature, it is a continuum. As it is said in the Three Successive (Teachings): "Since all phenomena of the two names arise, it is called the ground." The Lord Maitreya says: "As it was in the beginning, so it is later, the nature of reality is unchanging." In terms of classification, the master Vimalamitra says: "In the third of the successions, the first is of two kinds: the ground of essence and the ground of imputation." Therefore, the Dharmata of mind, the Sugata-garbha, which is naturally pure, is like a precious jewel, the ground for purifying defilements, the ground of the essence of the state itself; and the mistaken clinging together with its object is like the defilement of mud to be purified, because it is a temporary appearance of non-existence, it is said to be the ground of imputed delusion. Clinging itself is the cause of accomplishing Samsara, and although the activity of consciousness does not cease but merely continues, it is an artificial, temporary phenomenon, so it is not the continuum of the cause that becomes the proximate cause of the result; the emptiness that negates through intellectual analysis is also not the characteristic of the continuum of the cause, because both the proximate cause and the meaning of continuity do not exist. Secondly, it is the activity of skillful means and wisdom that separates that continuum of cause from temporary defilements, that is, the five common and supreme minds produced or to be produced by the three wisdoms that generate the essence. Thus, in the Three Successive (Teachings)

From that, it is shown that the five consciousnesses arise from the three aspects of wisdom. Thus it is said. Why does it become the tantra of means or path? Because it is the co-operative condition that manifests the very continuum of the fruit to be obtained, therefore it is means; because it is the basis of who goes where by what means, therefore it is the path. Wonderful miraculous and rare Dharma, it does not come from elsewhere, but the wisdom that relies on means arises in such a state. Thus it is said. In the condensed meaning of the Sutra, it says: possessing number and that Dharma. Thus it is said. Among these, there are two, near and far. This special path of unsurpassed yoga is the near path or means tantra, and other than that, the common path of the four vehicles of definite emergence, and the paths of the three outer tantra divisions are called the far path in this context. This is also because the basis and fruit are both connected with the actions of knowing and obtaining, so the means continuously arise without interruption, therefore it is a tantra. Special path There are two divisions: the path determined by means and the path of complete liberation through wisdom. In the Explanatory Tantra Ocean, it says: The path of liberation is completely shown as means. Thus it is said. Among these, the means path is: Wonderful means of liberation from bad migrations. Because mainly with the characteristics of means, through the wonderful door of ascetic behavior, the fruit is quickly accomplished. Just as with the combination of makṣīka (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), iron ore is transformed into gold in an instant. There are three divisions in order, as it says in the Three Stages: The door of instructions above and below. Thus it is divided into two. The upper door is: Relying on the six chakras, through the combination of burning and dripping, gradually learning to generate the bliss wisdom in the four chakras. As it says in the Ocean: Three wheels, two channels, three life channels, fire and wind move in the realm of space, milking is famous above. Thus it is said. The lower door is: Relying on the two, space and secret, through the combination of descending, holding, reversing, and pervading, generating the wisdom of indivisible bliss and emptiness in an instant, the means path is simultaneous. As it says in the Extensive: Perfectly complete and spontaneously accomplished, the supreme secret empowerment is bestowed. Thus it is said. The second is the path of liberation: On the mandala of complete wisdom, through the combination of hearing, thinking, and meditating, self-born Samantabhadra is spontaneously accomplished. Because mainly through the door of the three wisdoms, self-
