Because it generates all things such as earth and is its own nature, it is a single, non-separate dharani. Lord of Lanka, the samaya of the image is that any image does not depart from any of that, no matter how it appears, it does not change or depart from the true one. Thus, there is no arising or ceasing, no inside or outside, no gate or depth, no gathering or scattering, therefore it is a samaya. Everything does not depart from its nature, therefore it is called samaya. Lord of Lanka, for example, Vajrasattva, if it is the supreme meaning of the realm of activity of all Buddhas, then if an image of it is placed in front of any fool, what will that fool think? He said: Lord of Secrets, he will think like this, this is not Vajrasattva himself, but only his likeness. Lord of Lanka, therefore, when the supreme ones look, in the invisible realm of reality, Vajrasattva and his image are not in different places separately. Why is that? Because the nature of the two is Suchness, that is why. If they were separate, then it would not be reasonable for the fruit to arise from the object. The Lord of Lanka asked: Lord of Secrets, are those not different? He replied: Lord of Lanka, it is only when one does not understand that one speaks of the image and the meaning it symbolizes, it is only an appearance. If the supreme ones strive for Suchness, then there is no difference there. He asked: Lord of Secrets, then what is the use of speaking of all dharmas and symbols and names? He replied: Lord of Lanka, I have dispelled your doubts. He asked: Lord of Secrets, then what do those great wise ones do by striving with great difficulty and diligently? He replied: Lord of Lanka, although it is so, it is for the sake of guiding those who are attached to characteristics, and for those who are wise but have not yet achieved great accomplishments with small means and have not gained the experience of great meaning. Lord of Lanka, from Suchness, all kinds of miracles constantly appear, like jewels or clouds, everything appears from nothing, and because it spreads from small to many, it is the nature of existence and peace.

All appearances arise from nothingness. Therefore, these images of speech should also be understood as the nature of phenomena arising solely from nothingness. Lord of Lanka, the manifestations of images are diverse; the image of speech appears as letters. The manifestation of letters is as follows: through names, origins, forms, nature, sounds, actions, gates, categories, and the bases of letters, one will see and understand the ultimate secret truth. Thereby, one will become skilled in and liberated from all phenomena.
