and attachments. He manifests in the form of whatever is grasped, and appears with its characteristics to those who desire it. Just as the image of the sun and moon disc, without moving from the immeasurable palace, appears as different images in different waters, so too, without moving from the Buddha Vajrasattva himself, he appears as infinite Buddhas in immeasurable realms. Therefore, even if one were to speak for inexpressible eons of the various names of Buddha Vajrasattva known by the beings dwelling in the infinite Buddha realms named in various ways, one could not fathom the limit of the names of those dwelling in the Buddha realm of the eastern direction alone. Similarly, even if one were to speak for inexpressible eons of the beings dwelling in the Buddha realms of all ten directions, one could not exhaust the limit of their names. If those beings with small aspirations were to hear of the immeasurable realms and endless names of Vajrasattva, they would become bewildered and intoxicated. In all those realms of Vajrasattva, the mandala of the mind, the luminous essence of secret mantra itself, is uniquely, truly, as it is, completely, without inversion, gradually and simultaneously revealed. Why is this? Because those great bodhisattvas dwelling in the realm of Vajrasattva, due to the various natures of their minds—some with very profound wisdom, some without, some vast, some narrow, some stable, some changeable, some sharp, some dull, some swift, some slow, some pure—upon hearing the discourse on the essence of mantra, whether gradual or simultaneous, they do not fear or panic, but rejoice, are satisfied, and are pleased, and therefore there are various manifestations. The lifespan of those who dwell there is short, long, immeasurable, a hundred years, or eighty-four thousand. years. Enjoyment and use also change as one thinks. There are also those that are difficult to accomplish and those that are not. All beings have completely received predictions. Whoever hears the name of Buddha Vajrasattva has already performed prior deeds for many victors. Vajra

They will surely appear in the pure lands of bodhisattvas. They are blessed by the Buddhas. They will surely appear in the Mahayana. They are endowed with clairvoyance. They are surely the sons of the Buddhas. They are endowed with the eye of higher vision. O Lord of Lanka, therefore, only one Buddha of one Jambudvipa passes into nirvana. Similarly, all the emanation Buddhas of Vajrasattva, some have passed into nirvana and some have not. Having said this, the bodhisattva of body was filled with joy. The seventh chapter, the complete display of the miraculous powers of Vajrasattva, from the Great Sutra that Gathers the Intentions of All Buddhas. Then, the Lord of Lanka asked: Secret Lord, what exactly is meant by Vajrasattva? The Secret Lord said: Lord of Lanka, Vajrasattva refers to the mandala of the mind, luminosity, the nature of mantra, and suchness as it is. The Lord of Lanka asked: O Secret Lord, what is meant by the mandala of the mind? Likewise, what is meant by luminosity? What is meant by the nature of mantra? And what is meant by suchness, thusness, and that very reality? The Secret Lord said: Lord of Lanka, mind is that which is unmade, unconditioned, and arises in various ways. Mandala is that which is the very essence of bindu. Light is appearance. Luminosity is that which is unobscured by anything other than ignorance. Secret is that which is not an object of speech or action. Mantra is that which is spoken of as the source of qualities. Nature is that which is without substance, invisible, and the basis of all arising. Suchness is that which is unconditioned and unadulterated. Thusness is that which is unmade and unconstructed. That very reality is that which is unerring and unchanging. Again, the Lord of Lanka asked: Secret Lord, what is meant by unmade and unconditioned? What is meant by the arising of various things? The Secret Lord said: Lord of Lanka, it is unmade because there is no agent and no action to be sought.
