From the Great Sutra, in the branch of entering the method, the chapter called "Explanation of Various Methods," the fifty-second chapter is complete. Then, the Lord of Lanka again asked the Lord of Secrets: "Lord of Secrets, how is it that the Sutra is said to be completely liberated?" Having asked this, the Lord of Secrets said: "Lord of Lanka, this Sutra, wherever and however it is spoken, all of it is exhausted in these four Sutras alone. Lord of Lanka, what are the four? They are: that which arises definitively from hearing, that which arises definitively from seeing, that which arises manifestly, and that from where to where there is no definitive arising. Lord of Lanka, among these, that which arises definitively from hearing is: The nature of all is Suchness. By whatever is heard, in that very thing, without objects, all-pervasiveness expands. Knowing that, one realizes Suchness. Lord of Lanka, that which arises definitively from seeing is like this: By whatever one sees that Suchness, by seeing, the world of beings is completely purified. In anything, there is no fear. In that Suchness, all become Buddhas. Lord of Lanka, that which arises definitively manifestly is like this: By whatever one knows that emptiness, in that, in all that is manifest, it is definitively exhausted in emptiness. That itself is manifest Buddhahood. Lord of Lanka, that from where to where there is no definitive arising is like this: All in the realm of Suchness, from the beginning, are Buddhas without conceptualization. Where is there Buddhahood in the beginning? Thus, that itself is Suchness. Lord of Lanka, those are the Sutras, whatever limitless Sutras are spoken by whatever, in whatever way, are exhausted in those four Sutras alone. Those are the liberation of whatever knots, one should know that all dharmas are liberated and extensively explained." When the Lord of Secrets had spoken thus, the Bodhisattvas of inferior bodies completely understood clearly in all directions. From the Great Sutra, which is the collection of the intentions of all Buddhas, the chapter called "Extensive Explanation of the Sutra," the fifty-third chapter is complete. Then, the Lord of Lanka, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, completely asked the Lord of Secrets the fundamental question: "Lord of Secrets, what is the root? What is the definitive arising?"

Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal! Lion of Speech, please reveal! Thus spoken. The Lord of Secrets said: Lord of Lanka, the root you ask about is good! Very, very good! For example, the root is the mirror, the dissimilar, and the certain. Lord of Lanka, the mirror is like this, the example that accords with the Dharma of space is close, just as space is, so too, whatever is certain is seen in that way. Lord of Lanka, what is that space? For example, one nature, unsoiled, revealing, unborn, undying, formless, colorless, unconditioned, ungraspable, unholdable, boundless, without center, without increase, without decrease, without going, without coming, without moving, without shaking, without attachment, without abiding, without destruction, not empty, without change, not non-pervasive, not non-arising, not non-attainment, without weariness, without disappearance, without characteristics, without cause, without condition, without result, without effort, without manifestation. Lord of Lanka, space is not transformed from existence to non-existence, not transformed from non-existence to existence. Likewise, not transformed from clarity to non-clarity, from non-clarity to clarity, from otherness to oneness, from oneness to otherness, from being to non-being, from non-being to being, from near to far, from far to near. Likewise, transformed into large and small, transformed into good and bad, transformed into pleasure and pain, transformed into pervasive and non-pervasive, transformed into arising and non-arising, transformed into pure and impure, transformed into accomplished and unaccomplished, transformed into high and low, transformed into wide and narrow, transformed into form and formless, transformed into color and colorless, transformed into outer and inner, transformed into birth and cessation.
