The Lord of Secrets spoke: Great Bodhisattva, listen! When teaching to those who are intelligent with excellent faculties, the essence of the meaning of the three, Tantra, Agama, and Secret Instructions, is explained. When teaching to yogis who practice the nature of reality, the four, view, meditation, conduct, and result, are explained by identifying their respective characteristics. By introducing the words of the Victorious Ones and combining them with the meaning of Bodhicitta, the supreme intention is explained purely. Even when explaining the six combinations of the supreme intention to a common assembly, the words are straightforward and the syllables are carefully chosen. Especially when guiding a student, the pith instructions are explained concisely. Thus it was said. From the Magical Key to the Treasury, the second chapter, explaining Bodhicitta, is completed. Then, Bodhisattva Vajra again requested: O Lord of Secrets! The meaning of seeing one's own mind as the Guru, please explain that meaning to me. The Lord of Secrets spoke: There are three aspects to seeing one's own mind as the Guru: the Mind-Essence Cause Guru, the Result Mind Guru, and the Self-Appearing Dharma Guru. The Mind-Essence Cause Guru is one who is logically profound, without lineage, and not possessed by wrong desires. When an intelligent person with inferior intellect contemplates on both Samsara and Nirvana, they see happiness and suffering as two separate things. When they contemplate on happiness and suffering, they think that they arise from virtue and sin. The mind of memory inspires faith, and the mind of faith inspires diligence. That Guru of great diligence considers the three types of wisdom as intellect and diligently meditates on the meaning of Samadhi. As the power of Samadhi increases, wisdom expands, and as wisdom manifests, the Dharmakaya appears. From that, two types of Rupakaya arise, like the light and reflection of the sun and moon, spontaneously without obstruction. By arranging the teachings into nine vehicles, they are placed to be planted in a suitable field. The Result Mind Guru is the one who is pristine awareness, unconditioned. The Result appears as the three Kayas of self-appearance: it appears as the Svabhavikakaya, the essence appears as the Sambhogakaya, and compassion appears as the Nirmanakaya. In the essence of a single mind-stream, the teacher abides as the nature of the three Kayas. The Self-Appearing Dharma Guru is the Guru of the five great elements and the Guru of the five desires, etc.

Without showing through letters and language, but showing the Dharma through its own nature, not clinging to the duality of self and other, self-appearance shows the Dharma through its nature. Thus it is said. From "The Treasure Vault of the Magical Key," the chapter on revealing one's own mind, the third chapter is complete. Then, Vajrasattva again asked: Kye Kye, Lord of Secrets! What is the meaning of hiding and concealing? Please, Lord of Secrets, explain. The Lord of Secrets said: Kye Kye, Great Bodhisattva, listen! In the center of the ocean of phenomenal dharmas, the golden fish of Dharmata lies hidden in slumber. In the center of the ocean of conventional illusion, the golden fish of ultimate truth lies hidden in slumber. In the center of the ocean of samsara, the golden fish of Buddha lies hidden in slumber. In the center of the ocean of suffering of the six realms, the golden fish of great bliss lies hidden in slumber. In the center of the ocean of ignorance and delusion, the golden fish of wisdom lies hidden in slumber. In the center of the ocean of the Buddhas' sutras and tantras, the golden fish of intention lies hidden in slumber. In the center of the Vajra Master's heart, the golden fish of instructions lies hidden in slumber. Thus it is said. From "The Treasure Vault of the Magical Key," the chapter on the golden fish lying hidden in slumber, the fourth chapter is complete. Then, that Vajrasattva asked the Lord of Secrets thus: Kye Kye, Lord of Secrets! How is concealment recognized? Please, Lord of Secrets, explain. The Lord of Secrets explained: For that which appears as a phenomenal dharma, the concealment of the essence of Dharmata is like a rainbow and a reflection of the moon in water. For the bliss of conventional illusion, the concealment of ultimate bliss is like a form in a dream. For sentient beings in the three realms of samsara, the concealment of the Buddhas of the three times is like butter and milk. For the suffering of the three realms of samsara, the concealment of great bliss is like poison and its antidote. For the delusion of ignorance, the concealment of self-arisen wisdom is like a jewel covered by mud. For the sutras and tantras spoken by the Buddhas, the concealment of profound intention is like a burning glass and a water crystal. For the heart treasury of the Vajra Lama, the concealment of profound instructions is like a butter lamp inside a vase. Thus it is said.
