Arising. How does that arise? In a skull cup with characteristics, contemplate the palace of the great mandala. How does one contemplate that? On an unpainted great mandala, contemplate offering flowers adorned with gold and turquoise, and contemplate offerings of mountains of flowers and the like. From the rays of light from one's own heart, contemplate the deity, lineage lamas, Sugatas, and the four Dakinis in the palace of that mandala. Again, from the rays of light from one's own heart, through the blessings of the Sugatas and other lamas, and through the gathering and scattering of one's own samadhi mantra, summon the deceased and dissolve them into the space of the skull cup. How does one dissolve them? For the sake of summoning the gathering and scattering of the mantra, recite: Ja Hum Bam Ho (ཛ་ཧཱུ~ྂ་བྂ་ཧོ།,ja hūṃ baṃ ho,जा हूँ बं हो,Hook Hum Bam Ho). Thus, through the four, generate yoga samadhi. How does that arise? From the mindstream of that yogi, reside in the posture of extending and contracting the feet. Bend the fingers of the right hand to summon, and contemplate it as the shape of an iron hook. Make the Dharma investigation mudra with the left hand, and with great compassion, grasp the sentient beings of the six realms, and bless them with samadhi. In the light of great clarity, Ja Hook Mother, whose body color is dark and shimmering, holding an iron hook in her right hand, and holding a clear wheel in her left hand. One emanates from the light of the heart, and for the deceased, contemplate having a heap of aggregates, seize them with the iron hook, identify them with the wheel, and summon them. Then again, from the rays of light from one's own heart, by saying Hum (ཧཱུ~ྂ་,hūṃ,हूँ,Hum), contemplate a Hum (ཧཱུ~ྂ་,hūṃ,हूँ,Hum) syllable, dark blue and very clear, standing upright in the heart of the deceased. Also, in the space of the skull cup, contemplate a Hum (ཧཱུ~ྂ་,hūṃ,हूँ,Hum) syllable similar to that one, and again, by saying Hum (ཧཱུ~ྂ་,hūṃ,हूँ,Hum), contemplate dissolving into the Hum (ཧཱུ~ྂ་,hūṃ,हूँ,Hum) syllable in the space of the skull cup. Then again, by saying Bam (བྂ་,baṃ,बं,Bam), bind those Hum (ཧཱུ~ྂ་,hūṃ,हूँ,Hum) syllables in the skull cup together without duality, and clarify them with the instruction of recognition. Then, from the blessing of that yogi, there are two types of empowerment. What are those two? The deity empowerment is conferred on the body, and the Dharma empowerment is conferred on the mind. Then, from the blessing of that yogi, for that heap of aggregates that the deceased thinks of, it is not necessary to confer the deity empowerment on the body, but confer the Dharma empowerment on the mind, and be reborn in the Akanishta heaven, the palace of the Dharmakaya, the Dharma.

In that vast palace, inseparable from the four types of Dakinis, with the sound of "Ho," the great joy, blesses and casts forth inseparably. Vajradhara, listen! "Ja" is the sound of summoning. (Tibetan: ཛ, Devanagari: ज, Romanized Sanskrit: ja, Literal meaning: Summoning) "Hūṃ" is the sound of absorption. (Tibetan: ཧཱུྂ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Absorption) "Baṃ" is the sound of binding. (Tibetan: བྃ, Devanagari: बँ, Romanized Sanskrit: baṃ, Literal meaning: Binding) "Ho" is the sound of joy. (Tibetan: ཧོ, Devanagari: हो, Romanized Sanskrit: ho, Literal meaning: Joy) "Ja" is the mudra of summoning. (Tibetan: ཛ, Devanagari: ज, Romanized Sanskrit: ja, Literal meaning: Summoning) "Hūṃ" is the mudra of absorption. (Tibetan: ཧཱུྂ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Absorption) "Baṃ" is the mudra of binding. (Tibetan: བྃ, Devanagari: बँ, Romanized Sanskrit: baṃ, Literal meaning: Binding) "Ho" is the mudra of joy. (Tibetan: ཧོ, Devanagari: हो, Romanized Sanskrit: ho, Literal meaning: Joy) One who possesses yogic ability, if such activity is performed, will meet with the Bardo. This is the chapter on explaining the intermediate liberation place of the three types of liberation places, which is the ninety-ninth. Again, Vajradhara asked: In the eight wheels of existence, there are three types of liberation places. What is the final liberation place like? Thus he asked. The Lord of Secrets replied: Vajradhara, listen! Explaining the final liberation place is: When crossing the mountain of existence, the aggregates that think of the Bardo, in the eight wheels of existence, accompanied by the body of thought, travel. And how does it travel? In the three appearances of meaning, with the greatness of self-arisen qualities, the aggregates that think of the Bardo, cease in one, arise in two, and abide in three. Again, Vajradhara, listen! How does it cease in one? In the wheel of appearance touching, when the Bardo aggregates travel, beings, through the common action of karma, consciousness sleeps in non-thought, staying in the state of non-thought for seven days, with the merit of destroying in the state of non-thought, consciousness suddenly arises in the state of non-thought, the habitual tendencies of delusion cease, and the darkness of name diminishes. Explaining the manner of arising in the second arising is: In the state of Dharmata, consciousness suddenly arises, the appearance of delusion ceases, and the appearance of meaning arises. And how does it arise? When the wheel of appearance expanding dissolves, separated from all afflictions, it abides in the Isle of Bliss. With great bliss as a friend of yoga, the three intentions of Samantabhadra, in that great yoga, arise as great wisdom. Explaining the manner of abiding in the third abiding is: Whichever Bardo aggregate, even if realization has not arisen in that place, when dissolving into the wheel of clear light, the appearance of meaning is without remainder.
