It is named the Ālaya, thus it was said. Again, it was asked: Oh, oh, Lord of Secrets! Where the stainless Dharmakāya exists, does the Ālaya-consciousness exist or not? Where the Ālaya-consciousness exists, does the stainless Dharmakāya exist or not? Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal it. The Lord of Secrets said: Oh, great-hearted one, listen! For example, when the conch itself exists, then surely whiteness exists. Likewise, where whiteness exists, the conch itself does not necessarily exist. Where the Ālaya-consciousness exists, the Ālaya Dharmakāya also exists. Where the stainless Dharmakāya exists, the Ālaya-consciousness does not exist. In the perfectly pure Tathāgata, even the name of Ālaya is not mentioned. Thus it was said. Again, it was asked: Oh, oh, Lord of Secrets! The Dharmakāya and the Ālaya, which pervades which? Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal it. The Lord of Secrets said: Oh, great-hearted one, listen! Although whiteness pervades the conch, the conch does not pervade whiteness. Although the Dharmakāya pervades the Ālaya, the Ālaya does not pervade the Dharmakāya. Thus it was said. Again, it was asked: Oh, oh, Lord of Secrets! The Dharmakāya and the Ālaya, if one reverses, does the other reverse or not? Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal it. The Lord of Secrets said: Oh, great-hearted one, listen! For example, when whiteness slightly reverses, likewise the conch also changes accordingly. When the conch slightly reverses, the whiteness does not reverse. When the Dharmakāya reverses, the Ālaya reverses. When the Ālaya-consciousness reverses, likewise the Dharmakāya does not change accordingly. Thus it was said. Again, it was asked: Oh, oh, Lord of Secrets! Can conceptual thought be remedied by an antidote or not? Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal it. The Lord of Secrets said: Oh, great-hearted one, listen! How can the children of any village want to clear the gathered mass of clouds with the breath of their mouths? Unless the great element of wind scatters it, how can it become clear? Likewise, with the childish mind of a yogi, they want to clear the conceptual thoughts of grasping and being grasped, which are like clouds, with a non-conceptual antidote. Unless the wisdom of non-conceptualization arises, the non-conceptual antidote will never pacify. Thus it was said. Also, from the Key to Unlocking Miracles, the eleventh chapter, which shows the branch of metaphors.

Again, I pray: Alas, alas, Lord of Secrets! How does a yogi practicing Dzogchen determine the true meaning? Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal it! The Lord of Secrets said: Alas, great Bodhisattva, listen! A yogi practicing Dzogchen Should determine view, meditation, conduct, result, and so on. Having determined the view, One should possess confidence and faith. Having determined the meditation, One should refine it with wisdom and awareness. Having determined the conduct, One should act without any hindrance. Having determined the result, Dzogchen is spontaneously accomplished, and also effort. The view that enables realization Is like finding a source of precious gems. The meditation that has been practiced Is like refining the essence of precious gems. The essential instruction of Samadhi Is like balancing the temperature of the refining. The result that has become manifest Is like precious gems re-smelted into ingots. The conduct of a yogi Is like an elephant entering the ocean. If the view has not been determined, It is like a merchant unfamiliar with the road. If the meditation has not been determined, It is like a one-armed person climbing a rock. If the conduct has not been determined, It is like seeking meaning while harboring doubt. If the result has not been determined, It is like a chick that cannot hatch from a rotten egg. Merely determining the view, One will not generate any conceptual thoughts about anything. Merely determining the meditation, Wisdom and awareness are inseparable, without difference. Merely determining the conduct, One will not generate thoughts of hope and fear. Merely determining the result, The essence of self-aware mind, Is free from the disease of effort and fabrication. When one does not generate conceptual thoughts about anything, The view is like a great garuda soaring. If one does not stray from the state of realization, Meditation is like a golden peg firmly planted. When one does not accept or reject anything, Conduct is like an elephant entering the water. When one does not generate attachment to anything, Inner signs appear outwardly. Relying on realization, eliminate the obstacles on the path. If one does not accumulate in one's own mind, The samaya is like a polished crystal ball. Thus he spoke. Also, from the Key of Unlocking Miracles, the twelfth chapter: Determining the Ultimate Truth. Again, I pray: Alas, alas, Lord of Secrets! With the limbs of abiding measure, How does one meditate on the meaning of Samadhi? Please, Lord of Secrets, reveal it! The Lord of Secrets said: Alas, Bodhisattva!
