I, the definition of appearances, is: Because it is seen in the unobstructed realm, it is established as appearance. For example, it is shown within the category of distinctions. Here, an example of certainty is shown: Like the rays of the sun appearing, and like the light appearing from a lamp. Appearing and abiding in its own radiance. Likewise, from the great wisdom, the radiance of wisdom itself appears clearly. Wisdom abides in its own radiance. An example of the purity of Dharma-nature is shown: Like the appearance in a mirror, etc. It has been explained before, so it is not mentioned here. In summary, it is the three places of abiding. Thus it is said. In the Great Treatise on the All-Illuminating Bindu, the meaning of appearance is summarized and clarified, which is the eighty-second chapter. Then, the Lord of Secrets again asked: O! O! Bhagavan Vajradhara! How are the four ways of arising that abide in that appearance accomplished? Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: Vajra-holder, listen carefully. First, the way of arising of the power of compassion is: From the five characteristics of awareness, self-born wisdom appears as light. From that, due to the conceptualizations of grasping and being grasped, that light transforms into the support of the body. This is the way of arising of the power of compassion. This is for sentient beings who are confused. The way of arising of the compassionate Nirmanakaya is: From the union of the Sambhogakaya father and mother, the six syllables (Tibetan: ཡི་གེ་དྲུག་པ་,Sanskrit Devanagari: षडक्षर,Sanskrit Romanization: ṣaḍakṣara,Literal Chinese meaning: six syllables) radiate light. The way of holding the basis of existence is: First, on this body of habitual tendencies, after examining, holding the part of existence. Then, generating the entirety of the body. From the two eyes, two channels arise. That becomes a knot of channels. From that, the branches of the channels that generate the body arise. Within that, the citta (Tibetan: ཙིཏྟ་,Sanskrit Devanagari: चित्त,Sanskrit Romanization: citta,Literal Chinese meaning: mind) and the internal organs such as the lungs, are perfectly accomplished individually. This is the way of arising of the collecting body. The way of arising of the nourishing essence is: The umbilical cords of the mother and child are connected, and it arises from within the umbilical cord. From this, strength and splendor increase. Thus it is said. In the Great Treatise on the All-Illuminating Bindu, the four ways of arising are explained, which is the eighty-third chapter. Then, the Lord of Secrets again asked: O! O! Bhagavan Vajradhara! Please explain the four bardos that are spoken of in all the tantras and agamas. Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: Son of lineage, listen well. The four bardos are: The bardo of the purity of nature, the bardo of samadhi, the Dharma-nature
