It is beyond all calculations. It is beyond action, effort, and exertion. It is beyond all partiality and naturally perfect. Then, again, the Inconceivable Conqueror said this: "O, O, Bhagavan, since that is so, what are the afflictions? What is it not to understand the meaning of those? How are the inverted understandings? What is the partial understanding? I do not know these. May the Bhagavan speak, may the Teacher bestow his words. Emaho! Great Inconceivable Conqueror, listen! There are six afflictions: Ignorance is the grasping of the aspect of the fundamental delusion. Stupidity is the delusion from the aspect of wisdom. Hatred is the delusion from the aspect of the generation stage. Pride is the delusion from the aspect of views. Desire is the delusion from the aspect of appearances. Jealousy is the delusion from the aspect of the inconceivable. Those and so on, the afflictions are: the mind that grasps thoughts, the mind that grasps memories, the connecting habitual patterns, and the conceptualization that is the basis of all doubts, and the aspect of grasping at objects and things, and so on, are immeasurable. Not understanding the meaning of those is: from ordinary beings down to Anu. Inverted understandings are the tirthikas, the extremists who grasp at the extremes of existence and non-existence, permanence and annihilation, that is, the view of self, the view of permanence and annihilation, and all the views that grasp at self, and in short, the views that grasp at conceptual mind below the Shravakas and some Ati, and the views that grasp at permanence and annihilation, and the views that grasp at consciousness, and so on. Partial understanding is the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and so on, that is, the nine successive vehicles. The Inconceivable Conqueror again said, "O, O, Great Vajradhara, are those that the Teacher previously taught to be abandoned? Are they to be purified? Are they to be transformed? Are they to be released into their own peace? For each of those, are they to be subdued by each antidote? Or are they to be placed in one's own system? Is that itself the nature of reality? Are those self-liberated by themselves? I do not know the meaning of these. Please, Teacher, Great Compassionate One, speak." Then, Vajradhara spoke:

Alas! Listen, great Thubpa (Powerful One)! The words that I have taught, Abide in the minds of all sentient beings. The collection of afflictions, all are bound to samsara by them. The great bliss itself is obscured, These are not to be abandoned. If one does not realize suchness, Yoga is like the body and its shadow. Co-emergent ignorance and wisdom, From that, it arises naturally. Abandoning is not abandoning. Likewise, the ground is not purified. Transformation does not change. Because the unchanging essence of awareness is not realized, Like a rock or jade that cannot be refined, It cannot be purified and pacified. In the naturally pure state, It is examined by those who possess yoga. Likewise, it is not by nature, nor is it peace itself. Without knowing the directly perceived higher awareness, Like Mount Meru, the king of mountains, cannot be transformed and pacified, No one can destroy it, and effort is powerless. If one does not know that those antidotes are beyond conditions, one is not liberated. Without knowing self-purification without seeking, Like wanting to clear muddy water, the appearance of turbidity increases greatly, Clearing it outwardly is not possible. It itself is not the nature of afflictions. Without knowing that self-appearing awareness is naturally clear, Like the appearance of ordinary fools not transformed by philosophical tenets, It is not the reversal of clinging to appearances. Alas! Listen, Victorious One! These are two kinds of wisdom stages, The diligent ones are with afflictions, and the effortless ones. The diligent ones remain in their own place, Through the measure of familiar appearances, It becomes the appearance of pure wisdom. When everything arises spontaneously, inside and out, It is not born from conditions. If afflictions exist, even when those arise, Self-abiding, self-liberated, it is liberated by itself. Therefore, it is the appearance of yoga. The effortless ones are like this: Without an antidote, self-liberation is in oneself. Self-born ignorance itself, in the place of ignorance, is self-liberated, Like iron's own antidote, iron itself breaks its wings, Like breaking stones with stones. Oneself becomes one's own great antidote. The realization of the Great Perfection of self-nature is vast. Like this, whatever one becomes familiar with, By abiding without seeking, one finds the meaning of self-appearance. Without meditating, the nature of great bliss increases. Self-nature, Dharmadhatu wisdom.
