Na 533༄༅། །Explanation of terms. Regarding the samaya of no boundaries to protect, if one does not understand it as having no boundaries to protect, then protecting the samaya with directions and boundaries is said to be a deviation from the samaya. Differentiating the specifics of directions and boundaries is said to be a mistake in the samaya. For the self-nature of activity that is without effort, for the activity that has transcended effort, if one does not know it as unfindable, it is said to be an obscuration of activity. For the self-nature of unfindability, if one does not understand it as unfindable, then engaging in activity with effort is said to be a deviation from activity. Making efforts with body and speech is said to be a mistake in activity. For the self-nature of pure wisdom, it is clear from the beginning that it is without obscurations. If one does not know it as without obscurations, it is said to be obscured by pure wisdom. For the wisdom that is without obscurations, if one does not understand it as without obscurations, if one does not understand it as unmoving and clear, it is said to be a deviation from wisdom. If one thinks of clarity as clear and unclear, it is said to be a mistake in wisdom. The self-nature of ground and the other shore is that it cannot be purified and traversed. If one does not know it as unpurifiable and untraversable, it is said to be an obscuration of ground and the other shore. For the ground and path that do not need purification and traversing, if one does not understand that they do not need purification and traversing, for the self-nature of the stages of the path, if one does not know it as untraversable 534, it is said to be an obscuration of the path. For the self-nature of untraversability, if one does not understand it as untraversable, if one thinks that the path is traversable, it is said to be a deviation from the path. If one thinks of it as five distinctions, it is said to be a mistake in the path. If one engages in purification and traversing, it is said to be a deviation from ground and the other shore. If one thinks of it as an upper and lower sequence, it is said to be a mistake in ground and the other shore. For the self-nature of subtle things, it is the self-nature of being free from grasping and apprehended. If one does not know it as being free from grasping and apprehended, for the self-nature of subtle things, it is said to be obscured by subtle things. For the subtle that is free from grasping and apprehended, if one does not understand it as being free from grasping and apprehended, if one sees it as existing as the finest particle, it is said to be a deviation from the subtle. If duality appears in the freedom from grasping and apprehended, it is said to be a manifestation of the subtle. Showing the self-nature of emptiness is that mind and phenomena are connected without being two. If one does not know it as a non-dual connection, it is said to be an obscuration of emptiness. For the connection that is without being two, if one does not understand it as a non-dual connection, if one sees phenomena and mind as two, it is said to be a deviation from emptiness.

The arising of dual faith is said to be the confusion of the continuum. To show the scriptures as they are, is to establish and clearly reveal them. If one cannot ascertain, it is said to be an obscuration of the scriptures. For the scriptures that are ascertained, if one does not understand them from the beginning, saying they are uncertain, this is said to be a fault of the scriptures. Grasping the superficial meaning of sounds and words, following words that do not accord with the meaning, is said to be a confusion of the scriptures. To show the nature of the pith instructions as they are, is to repeat without duality. If one does not understand without elaboration, it is an obscuration of the pith instructions. For the pith instructions free from addition and detraction, if one does not understand without elaboration, thinking there is addition and detraction, this is addition and detraction, said to be a fault of the pith instructions. Clinging to the extreme of elaboration, it is said to be a confusion of the pith instructions. If distinguished, it is indeed so, but if summarized, it is said to be no more than three. Mistaking the path of going is a fault, not understanding the true meaning is an obscuration, wandering in the five gates is a confusion. For example, entering a meaningful path, if one goes to the meaningful western path, going west will not accomplish the eastern meaning. Not knowing the origins of the path will cause confusion. Desiring with a desireless intention, entering the path of desiring appearances, this is called a fault. For the nature free from addition and detraction, there is the obscuration of speech and conceptual thought. Not cutting off the addition of words is confusion. For the differences in the faculties of individuals, the mind accords with the nine stages of vehicles, separately explaining different views and practices. Therefore, faults, obscurations, and confusions arise. Thus it is said. From the "Precious Lamp," the thirteenth chapter, showing the faults, obscurations, and confusions in the knowledge of not understanding Dzogchen. The gathering hero Vajra, to the teacher Great Secret Lord, asks what are the three, faults, obscurations, and confusions like? The teacher Great Secret Lord, to the gathering hero Vajra, if a definite intention does not arise, it is said that Dzogchen has no obscurations. There is no distinction between above and below, no faults and obscurations of the six vehicles, one cannot determine the two truths, there is no clinging to the nature of the essence, with self-nature wisdom there are no obscurations. Liberation from the grasped and the grasper, is understanding its meaning without fault, the two minds of grasping and conceptuality are known as confusion.
