Sa! To the great teacher Vajrapani, the Lord of Secrets! Upon what intention were these progressively practiced vehicles divided? To that, the great teacher Vajrapani, the Lord of Secrets, said: To the Samputa Vajrasattva, In the essence of the heart, the nameless equality, He divided 518 different branches in order. The meanings of the Tirthikas, Pratyekabuddhas, Sravakas, and the two, Cittamatra and Madhyamaka, Kriya, Upa Yoga, and Maha, Anu, and Ati Yoga, He divided the different branches and faculties. In order to subdue the three poisons, he divided them into three vehicles. From the three poisons arise eighty-four thousand afflictions. To subdue them, there are eighty-four thousand Dharma gates. From the three, cause, path, and result, there are three vehicles. He taught the meaning of what is to be subdued and what subdues it. Thus he spoke. From the Jewel Illuminator, the fourth chapter, which teaches the divisions of the vehicles. Then Samputa Vajrasattva asked the great teacher Vajrapani, the Lord of Secrets: How are the Tirthikas' views in order? To that, the great teacher Vajrapani, the Lord of Secrets, said to Samputa Vajrasattva: There are four kinds of Tirthikas: Eternalism, annihilationism, common, and Vedic purity. The view of eternalism is: Regarding the essence of the heart, the nameless equality, Not understanding, they consider the appearance of the branches to be eternal. They consider that there is a result without a cause to be eternal. They consider the nature of all appearances to be the great eternal. The measure of the color and shape of what is considered eternal is: The measure of the color is white, bright, oily, and round. The measure is the size of a thumb, mustard seed, or rapeseed. The measure of the size is related to the body. The view of annihilationism is: Not understanding the essence of the heart, they hold the view of annihilation. They consider that the appearance is not awareness but appears as cognizance, They consider cognizance to be a sudden appearance. They consider that in the next life, cognizance has no birth or death. They consider that the results of virtue and vice will appear in this life. They consider happiness, few diseases, and long life to be the result. They consider that the result of doing good is these things themselves. They consider that not doing good results in suffering, many diseases, and a short life, and that the result of negative actions is also Experienced by oneself in this life, not in the next. Through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, one engages in virtue and vice. Because one experiences the ripening of these actions in this life, Therefore, one should abandon non-virtue and engage in virtue. The results of both virtue and vice, They do not desire in the next life, but desire the results now. The view of the common Tirthikas is also, Because they do not know the nature of the nameless equality, Therefore, the appearance of the branches

Furthermore, from the distinctions of wisdom, the movement of wisdom is moved by wind. The essence of wind is taken as nourishment, and the channels form in the vessel. When the wind moves, the fire of bliss blazes; when it does not move, there is ease. Because one desires bliss, one blocks the wind and meditates on bliss. The view of pure intellect is: except for not understanding the essence of one's own nature, when eliminating the wisdom of manifest skill, one believes there is a pure essence. Understanding meaning or self-nature does not change. It transcends color, shape, and boundaries. It is not destroyed by conditions, and it is difficult to understand with words. If examined with wisdom, it is easy to understand. A single pure essence free from the extremes of permanence and annihilation. That is the view of ultimate self-nature. Thus it is said. From the "Precious Illuminator," the fifth chapter, the explanation of the views of the Tirthikas is complete. The compiler, Sempa Dorje, asked the teacher, the Great Secret Lord: What are the tenets of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas? The teacher, the Great Secret Lord, replied to the compiler, Sempa Dorje: There are two kinds of Shravaka tenets: the Vaibhashikas and the Sautrantikas. The Vaibhashikas' tenet is: from the equality of the essence of mind, in the subtle wisdom of the branches, external objects and one's own mind appear separately; because of the appearance, the yak tail and the rainbow appear. The Sautrantikas' tenet is: atoms are invisible, appearing as a single mass. They believe that through the power of selflessness, the six objects can be obstructed. The tenet of the Pratyekabuddha vehicle is: external objects also appear in a sequential order of dependent origination. They believe that selflessness is the manifestation of consciousness. Thus it is said. From the "Precious Illuminator," the sixth chapter, the explanation of the views of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is complete. The compiler, Sempa Dorje, asked the teacher, the Great Secret Lord: What are the tenets of the Chittamatra and Madhyamaka? The teacher, the Great Secret Lord, replied to the compiler, Sempa Dorje: The tenets of Chittamatra are divided into two: those with aspects and those without aspects. The tenet of those who believe in aspects is: self-awareness continues in a constant manner, but the momentary part is impermanent. They believe that the appearance of aspects is true in the mind. Free from the four extremes, the grasper and the grasped are both empty. They believe that self-awareness is a single essence of luminosity. The tenet of those without aspects is: external objects do not have the appearance of mind. Self-awareness is the essence of true wisdom.
