The illusory wheel called "delusion" arises. I thought I understood the truth, but that very knowledge became a delusion. It's as if the nameless has become named. Consciousness divides the object and falls into duality. Once self arises, it seems that the other also exists. It's not established from the root, but a sudden delusion, like the sky disturbed by clouds. Consciousness doesn't grasp its own place, floating aimlessly, like a wandering beggar away from home. The mind doesn't grasp its own place, wavering, like clouds blown by the wind. The sign that the mind doesn't grasp its own place is like a mouse losing its hole and searching everywhere. Therefore, the delusion of samsara appears, like a mirage mistaken for water. Due to the power of self-grasping, the five poisons are fabricated, like cutting off one's own life. Suffering is experienced in the six realms, like a wild animal caught in a trap. No matter what is done, it leads to decline, like an elephant sinking in the mud. Therefore, the root of self-grasping must be completely eradicated, and one must abide in the realm of reality that transcends everything. Thus it is said. This is the precious nectar essence, the tantra that gathers the intent of all Buddhas, the sixth chapter, the chapter on characteristics, which establishes the appearance of samsara and nirvana from the general aspect of the place. Then, the all-knowing young boy asked the Vajrapani teacher: The nature of delusion is self-grasping, taking what is not that as that. In order to cut it off from the root, how should one practice the vehicle of all discriminations? After asking this, the Vajrapani teacher said: In order to cut off self-grasping from the root, in the Dharma gates of the outer and inner vehicles, the methods of cutting are inconceivable. The outer paths are generally the two views of permanence and annihilation. The inner paths are generally the nine stages. Each has many different assertions. If one cannot understand the general meaning, one will fall into error. Among them, the eternalists among the outer paths believe that the nature of the ground is unchanging. Through conceptual thought, they see colors and shapes, and practice the wrong path of superimposition. The annihilationists among the outer paths believe that nature has no color or shape, that there is no cause and effect, and that it is emptiness. They engage in the karma of slander and delusion. The Hearers of the Small Vehicle of the inner paths regard appearances as coarse and subtle objects. Although they realize the selflessness of persons, they are deluded because they do not realize the selflessness of phenomena. They practice inferior asceticism as a sign. The Pratyekabuddhas believe that everything is nothing, and that whatever appears is the basis of ignorance and samsara. Therefore, they abandon the evil discriminations of dependent origination and arising and ceasing. The Mind-Only school believes that uninterrupted self-luminosity, appearances are mind.

By seeing with ignorant views, desiring self-knowing and self-illumination is a mistake. Viewing Madhyamaka mind-essence as unreal, analyzing with logic sees emptiness. Holding onto the birth-source of nothingness is a mistake. In the Kriya's (Kriya) pure Dharma-nature, not knowing the basis of samsara and nirvana, desiring accomplishment through purification is a mistake. In the Upa's (Upa) self-nature abiding Dharma-nature, samsara and nirvana are non-dual, looking upwards while acting downwards is delusion. In the Yoga's (Yoga) nature of being apart from objects, holding onto birth and cessation as two, desiring the five enlightenments is delusion. In the Maha's (Maha) inseparability of appearance and emptiness, meditating on deities with conceptual thoughts is a mistake. In the Anu's (Anu) all-ground (kun gzhi, Sanskrit: ālayavijñāna, phonetic: ālayavijñāna, literal meaning: storehouse of all seeds) space, seeing the Dharmadhatu and wisdom as inseparable, both view and conduct are greatly mistaken. In the Ati's (Ati) impartiality and freedom from extremes, seeing spontaneous perfection and primordial purity as indeterminate, sweet words of conceptual fabrication are a mistake. Thus, the order of the vehicles, the three bodies arising from me, in the nature of self-appearing samsara, are shown by appropriately applying them in order. If the nature of Samantabhadra (spyi ti) is not realized, whatever high or low philosophical system is desired, it will not transcend the two extremes of permanence and annihilation, and by practicing self-grasping, one will again grasp at self. In my unsurpassed Ati, when various things appear, without blocking or clinging to anything, self-appearing and self-purifying, one is greatly liberated. Liberation and non-liberation are boundless. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Precious Nectar Essence, the collection of all Buddhas' intentions, the seventh chapter: Showing mistakes by holding onto philosophical systems of vehicles is complete. Then, Kunrig Khyuchung asked the Vajrapani (gsang bdag) teacher: If all conceptual vehicles are mistaken, how are the hundred thousand mistakes of the ten points cut? After asking thus, the Vajrapani teacher replied: In my mind-essence, Samantabhadra (spyi ti), although there is no cutting or being cut, for sentient beings who do not understand this, the self-nature of self-knowing, in the view of unborn primordial purity, those who do not know should be made to know. Those who do not understand should be made to understand. Those who do not realize should be made to realize. Those who are not liberated should be made to liberate. Those who do not see should be shown only as an indication. Apart from this, there is no dharma to be sought, practiced, or attained, not even as small as a dust particle. I only show it as a means of realization, look into the state of self-clear self-knowing. The root of delusion, this self-grasping, is the emptiness of primordial purity and unborn. With great wisdom arising naturally, it is free from thought and speech, without obstruction.
