The Teacher replied: Because sentient beings' minds are inexhaustible, it is said that the vehicles are also inexhaustible. As an antidote to the eighty-four thousand afflictions, that many Dharma doors are taught. Minds have three types: superior, middling, and inferior. From these, dividing each into three yields nine. Therefore, it is said there are nine vehicles. Faculties are also superior, being the 'sudden transcendence.' The 'All-Accomplishing,' 'Excellent Accomplishing,' and 'Sudden Transcendence' are taught. Because there are differences in minds, there are differences in vehicles. Without mind, cutting through delusion, one becomes a Buddha. There is no vehicle and no entry. From the definite arising of the three vehicles, one abides in the fruit of one vehicle. Dividing the abiding yields nine, but the definitive instruction arises from one. That one is the All-Accomplishing Yoga. 'All' extracts the essence of the vehicle, 'Accomplishing' shows the accomplishment of all. 'Yoga' is the union of view and conduct, 'Ga' shows the decisive self-abiding. What are your Ati's view, meditation, and conduct? How do you accomplish the fruit of practice? Like this, how do you take appearances? Do Dharma and Buddha exist or not? What are hell and hungry ghosts? Does this mind exist from the beginning or not? If not, from where do sentient beings come? If it exists, how does it abide at that time? Buddha and sentient beings are two types. Are these two one or different at the base? If one, how do samsara and nirvana arise? If different, there is no connection. Without connection, practice is meaningless, like trying to extract butter from sand. If there is a connection, examine two types of connection. First, if the essence is one, then delusion and non-delusion are mutually contradictory. If the connection arises from that and that, does Buddha arise from sentient beings, or do sentient beings arise from Buddha? If like the first, because there is no delusion, becoming a Buddha is also meaningless. If like the second, then all sentient beings become Buddhas, and liberation is attained without effort. Or again, one becomes a deluded conceptualizer. Is there delusion at the base or not? If there is, like cleaning coal, hearing, thinking, and meditating will not lead to Buddhahood. If there is no delusion at the base, then all sentient beings have the Buddha-nature. If there is no delusion at the base, and it is said that delusion suddenly arises, then like clouds in the sky, self-liberation is the nature, and there will be the fault of endlessness. What is your Ati's view? Do you consider awareness to be the Dharmakaya or not? Do you consider appearances to be the Dharmakaya or not? Show your view, meditation, conduct, and result. Then I will point out the differences. Thus, ask the other. Thus, he said. Argue with the other.

The chapter on debate, part two. Then, the Self-Appearing Boy asked the completely liberated teacher, "What is the weapon for debating Ati?" The teacher instructed the retinue, "Regarding the tenets of Ati, the original nature is spontaneously accomplished and unborn, therefore it is considered to be both co-emergent purity and spontaneous accomplishment. The view is to see manifest existence as the Dharmakaya, meditation is to meditate in emptiness, conduct is to act without effort, the fruit is to accomplish without hope or fear, awareness is considered to be primordially enlightened, and appearance is the realm of Dharma nature." Having said that, refute with the weapon of the general: "Before your non-existence, because there is spontaneous accomplishment on the ground, it will become the fault of limitation and partiality. Initially, there was no name on the ground, but you have given a name to the ground, and the vow of no name will be broken. Or, if your ground is co-emergent purity, it will become impure blackness. Wisdom is co-emergent purity, including ignorance. If your view is the Dharmakaya, is the Dharmakaya conditioned or unconditioned? If it is conditioned, like conditioned things will perish, the Dharmakaya will become subject to birth and death. If not, the destruction of appearance and the non-destruction of the Dharmakaya are clearly contradictory. Is awareness Buddha or non-Buddha? If you say awareness is Buddha, will the Buddha's intention change or not? If you say it does not change, your own awareness, the former stops and the latter changes, because awareness has birth, death, and change, it is clearly contradictory to unchanging. If you say there is change, the Buddha will become a sentient being, and if awareness is Buddha, it will be lost. Or, if awareness is self-born wisdom, will awareness be damaged during meditation? If you think it will not be damaged, it contradicts the meaning of meditating in emptiness. Conduct and fruit, etc. are not necessary, and meaningless talk will become a disease. If awareness is damaged, self-born wisdom will be lost." Having said that. The chapter on the nature of the weapon of Ati debate, part three. Then, the Self-Appearing Boy asked the completely liberated teacher, "How does Ati use the weapon of debate against the general in the form of questions?" asked. The teacher instructed the retinue, "Ati said to the general, my tenets are like this, from which, you infer yourself, and your own tenets of the general.
