Then Tubtab said: Because things appear as one is accustomed to them, appearances are not truly existent, but are merely imputed by the mind. If they were truly existent, all six classes of beings would have similar perceptions. Now, listen with your mind, assembled heroes! Due to the three aspects of primordial self-delusion, the ground of all, the various appearances seen by one's own mind are diverse. Therefore, habits appear differently in each mind. Because the Dharmakaya is immutable, what is imputed by the mind is not a single object or place. Therefore, there is no doubt that one's own mind appears as delusion. Thus, the sense faculties and their objects do not exist on the ground. The deluded awareness is the mind of each individual being. If it were one, then all sentient beings would experience the ripening results of virtue and vice, even without having committed them. Because the ripening of karma is not jointly established, the increase of habits is the suffering of delusion. Now, listen, great Vajrasattva! Because the ground and appearances are unrelated, and because objects are the increase of deluded habits, the objects of the unfixed mind are diverse. It is said that without ignorance, harm cannot occur. This is the sixteenth chapter, "The Teaching That Indeterminate Appearances Are Not Contrary to Meaning," from the Tantra of the Great Perfection, the Exhaustion of the Depths of View and Wisdom. Then, Kunrig Chöje spoke: Even if one leaves knowledge uncultivated and free, there is no deficiency because one knows that all external appearances are delusions. Because the eight worldly concerns are equally liberated in their own place, one's own being is not abandoned, but is the Dharmakaya. For example, the ashoka tree itself is known as nectar. Similarly, this very mind of beings, when the lama reveals its meaning, is ordinary bodhichitta. The essence of self is inherently the meaning itself. Now, listen, assembled Vajrasattva! Because beings do not realize the meaning of reality, they are beings. Therefore, through the power of the meaning of scripture and pith instructions, realizing one's own mind, one is no longer a being. The wise say that there is no straying from non-cultivation. Because the essence is without permanence or annihilation, and because the nature of mind is self-luminous and the meaning is not forgotten, there is no place to stray into idle talk or unprophesied statements. For example, whatever is touched by alchemical substances, all of it will not turn into anything other than gold. Similarly, even the minds of non-Buddhists, the mind touched by the alchemical substance of pith instructions, even non-Buddhists are in a state of wisdom and bliss, without attachment to objects.

Therefore, there is no need to meditate. From the Dzogchen view, the Tantra of Profoundly Perfect Wisdom states that even without meditation, there is no straying, Chapter Seventeen. Then Vajrasattva asked again: What is the fruit of realizing the definitive meaning instructions of the view that perfects the essence of one's own mind? What is the view of the spontaneously accomplished nature of reality itself? How are the non-appearing mind and the true meaning one? How is the meaning of non-separation achieved without meditation? How is the meaning of wisdom inexpressible? How does the sequence of experiences and signs arise? Having thus requested, understanding the meaning, he gave instructions: Like one who possesses a foundation constantly wandering, In the bardo between samsara and nirvana, With the instructions that definitively cut off the beginning and the end, Realize the self-born wisdom as the nature of reality itself. The fruit is manifest enlightenment without birth and death. Now, Vajrasattva, listen with your mind. Just as a lamp dispels darkness for certain, In the bardo where the two, birth and death, arise, With the instructions that introduce the dharmakaya of one's own mind, Ignorance and samsara are cleared away, and wisdom increases. Afflictions, habitual tendencies, and conceptual thoughts are fundamentally absent. Like a great river merging into the mainstream without diminishing, In the bardo of post-meditation within samadhi, With the definitive instructions of constant non-separation, Obstacles and adverse conditions cannot separate the meaning. Otherwise, it is impossible to be distracted from the root. Now, listen to the essence of the assembled retinue. Like a swan extracting the essence of milk mixed with water, In the bardo between the clinging body and mind, With the instructions that cut off external straying, Because there is no object of clinging to be abandoned or adopted, Agitation and dullness without an object are fundamentally purified. For example, like a precious wish-fulfilling jewel, In the bardo of karmic actions of the existences, With the instructions of the time when Buddhas appear, The qualities of the definitive ultimate fruit arise. Afterward, it is impossible to take birth elsewhere. Now, all of you assembled retinue, listen carefully. Like a hero who triumphs well on the battlefield, Victorious over all disputes of self and other. With the instructions of meaningless argumentative words, The profound and definitive distinction of one's own doctrine is supreme. Therefore, there is no rival in the three realms. Now, listen, assembled Vajrasattva. That also, the fruit of the instructions that show the meaning, Is realized not in the future but in this very moment.
