The naturally self-arisen pure one asked the nameless, all-liberating teacher: "How does the activity of the mind function?" The teacher replied to the assembly: "The way the activity of the mind functions is inconceivable. Briefly, the way the activity functions is shown as: It performs the activity of dispelling the darkness of ignorance. It performs the activity of dispelling the imprints of delusion. It performs the activity of destroying the darkness of obscurations. It performs the activity of liberating the five poisons in their own place. It performs the activity of transforming sentient beings into Buddhas. It performs the activity of cutting the root of delusion from its base. It performs the activity of liberating deluded appearances in their own place. It performs the activity of liberating the essence of appearances. It performs the activity of leading beings from the place of samsara. It performs the activity of transforming suffering into happiness. It performs the great activity of knowing that all are Buddhas. This is like pacifying, increasing, magnetizing, and wrathful activities." Thus he spoke. From the Tantra of Blazing Sky, the fifth chapter, which shows the activity of the mind. Then, the naturally self-arisen pure one asked the nameless, all-liberating teacher: "Does this mind exist from the beginning, or does it not?" The teacher replied to the assembly: "This mind does not exist from the beginning, but due to the wind of ignorance's movement, there are both samsara and nirvana. For example, like clouds in the sky and dust on a mirror, they do not exist in the base, but arise from force." Thus he said. Then, the assembly asked again: "If the mind exists from the beginning, it would be permanent. If it does not exist from the beginning, it would be nihilistic. How can these extremes of permanence and nihilism be eliminated?" After asking the teacher, the teacher replied to the assembly: "The nature of mind is not formed as a shape on the base, therefore it eliminates the extreme of permanence. Unceasing power, various displays arise, luminous qualities, self-appearance, therefore it eliminates the extreme of nihilism. The nature of mind dissolves power into the base, therefore it eliminates the extremes of both permanence and nihilism." Thus he spoke. From the Tantra of Blazing Sky, the sixth chapter, which shows that the mind's existence and non-existence are both not established. Then, the naturally self-arisen pure one asked the nameless teacher, the all-liberator: "Is this mind a Buddha from the beginning, or is it not? If it is a Buddha, how is this mind deluded from the beginning? If it is not a Buddha, then samsara would become rootless?" After asking, the teacher replied to the assembly: "This mind is a Buddha from the beginning, but due to the power of conceptual thought, it wanders in samsara. Due to the power of ignorance, it appears as samsara. In samsara

The root is not cut off, the cycle of existence is eradicated, and nirvana is attained. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Blazing Sky. Although the mind is inherently Buddha, due to the power of the five poisons and ignorance. (This is) the seventh chapter of the cycle of existence. Then, Self-Arisen Natural Purity, to the nameless teacher, Universal Liberation, asked: If one is inherently Buddha, how do sentient beings become deluded? If the Buddha is deluded, there is no end. If the mind is not Buddha, from where should one seek the Buddha? When he asked this, the teacher instructed the assembly: This mind is not the Buddha who has realized manifestation. This mind is the spontaneously accomplished Buddha from the beginning. In the spontaneously accomplished essence, due to mistaking it for activity and awareness, sentient beings are deluded due to the power of the five poisons, afflictions, and ignorance. No one answers because of the fault of not recognizing one's own face. The Buddha is not sought from elsewhere, but is the realization of one's own mind as Buddha. Recognizing one's own nature in the cycle of existence is the attainment of nirvana. Recognizing one's own mind, there is no delusion. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Blazing Sky. Although the mind is inherently Buddha, due to not realizing it, delusion manifests on the spontaneously accomplished essence, (this is) the eighth chapter. Then, Self-Arisen Natural Purity, to the nameless Universal Liberation teacher, asked: Does the mind inherently have substance or not? If there is substance, then the mind will become permanent. If there is no substance, then it will fall into annihilation. What is its true nature? When he asked this, the teacher instructed the assembly: What you ask me, is it asking about the basis or asking about the activity? If asking about the basis of reality, then the basis of mind has no substance, the basis of mind has no form, the basis of mind has no color, this mind is nothing, without substance, without name. Thus it was said. If it is said to ask about the activity, then because its nature is indestructible and manifests in various ways, therefore the phenomena of appearance and existence, the phenomena of substance, are the manifestation of the activity of the basis. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Blazing Sky. The basis of mind has no substance, but in activity there is substance, (this is) the ninth chapter. Then, Self-Arisen Natural Purity, to the nameless teacher, Universal Liberation, asked: Does the mind have delusion or not? If there is delusion, then the mind will become a fault, like the example of black charcoal. If the mind has no delusion, then all sentient beings should be liberated. How to resolve this dilemma? Thus he asked the teacher, the teacher
