Like worldly people, with the motivation of pursuing worldly affairs in this life, such as wanting to become great, wanting fame, etc., no matter how much Dharma you listen to, it will not become true Dharma, so the first thing is to look inward and correct your own motivation, which is the most important. If you know how to correct your motivation in this way, then virtuous actions will be grasped by the method, becoming the path to enter great beings, entering the realm of immeasurable merit. If you do not know how to correct your motivation in this way, even if you listen to the Dharma for many years and practice for many years, it will only become a shadow of the Dharma, so when listening to the Dharma, when practicing, even when visualizing deities, reciting mantras, prostrating, circumambulating, or even reciting a single syllable of Mani (Tibetan: མ་ཎི།), it is very important to be sustained by the mind of Bodhicitta. Secondly, the vast method, the motivation of secret mantra is: As stated in the "Three Kinds of Lamps": "Although the meaning is one, there is no confusion, There are many methods and no difficulties, Relying on the power of sharp faculties, The vehicle of mantra is particularly superior." Therefore, in the secret mantra Vajrayana, there are many paths to enter, many methods to accumulate merit, and profound methods to manifest the fruit without having to endure great difficulties yourself. And the root of these also lies in transforming intention, as it is said: "All dharmas are conditions, At the peak of intention, it dwells completely." Therefore, do not regard the place of teaching Dharma and the teacher as ordinary and impure appearances, but listen by clearly visualizing the five perfections. That is, the perfect place is the Akaniṣṭha Dharmadhatu palace, the perfect teacher is the Dharmakaya Samantabhadra, the perfect entourage is the intention transmission of the Buddhas, the symbolic transmission of the Vidyadharas, the heroes and heroines, visualize as the nature of deities and goddesses. Or, visualize the place of teaching Dharma as the Copper-Colored Auspicious Mountain Lotus Light Palace, the Lama teaching Dharma as Orgyen Padmasambhava, and we, the entourage listening to the Dharma, also visualize as the eight Vidyadharas, the twenty-five disciples, and the nature of heroes and heroines. Or, the perfect place is the Eastern Abhirati Pure Land, the perfect teacher is the Sambhogakaya Vajrasattva, the entourage is the deity assembly of the Vajra family, the nature of heroes and heroines. Or, the perfect place is the West

The pure land of Sukhavati in the west, the perfect teacher, the Buddha Amitabha, the perfect retinue, the deities of the Padma family, heroes and heroines, visualize as the nature of gods and goddesses. In any case, the Dharma is the Mahayana, time is the eternal wheel of Dharma, settle in the wisdom of knowing that it has always been so. Those who visualize in this way should also know that it is so, and not start visualizing from nothing, because the Lama is the embodiment of all Buddhas of the three times, the body is the Sangha, the speech is the Dharma, the mind is the essence of the Buddha, the collection of the Three Jewels. The body is the Lama, the speech is the Yidam, the mind is the Dakini, the collection of the Three Roots. The body is the Nirmanakaya, the speech is the Sambhogakaya, the mind is the Dharmakaya, the collection of the Three Kayas. He is the emanation of all past Buddhas, the source of all future Buddhas, the representative of all present Buddhas. Even we sentient beings of the degenerate age, whom the thousand Buddhas of the Good Kalpa could not subdue, the Lama is superior to all Buddhas in terms of compassion and kindness in embracing us. As it is said: The Lama is the Buddha, the Lama is the Dharma, likewise the Lama is the Sangha, the Lama is the maker of all, the Lama is the glorious Vajradhara. And so on. We, the assembly who listen to the Dharma, also have the Tathagatagarbha as the basis, the precious human body as the support, the virtuous friend as the condition, and the mastery of that key instruction as the method, so we are future Buddhas. As it is said in the Two Examinations Tantra: Sentient beings are all Buddhas, but are obscured by adventitious stains, removing those stains is the real Buddha. And so on. Secondly, regarding conduct, there are two types of conduct: that which should be abandoned and that which should be adopted. The first includes the three faults of the vessel, the six stains, and the five non-holdings. First, the three faults of the vessel are: not listening like an inverted vessel, not remembering like a leaking vessel, and being mixed with afflictions like a poisoned vessel. These are the three. The first is that when listening to the Dharma, one's ear consciousness should not be distracted to other places, but should focus on the sound of the Dharma being taught. If you do not listen in this way, it is like pouring essence on an inverted vessel.
