Go. If mindfulness arises in this, it is the union of shamatha and vipashyana. By continuing to cultivate this, all subtle and coarse thoughts will cease, entering a state of samadhi in which nothing can be established as emptiness. Clear and without thought, the body and mind cannot be felt, and a blissful sensation arises that cannot be separated from the samadhi. By continuing to cultivate this, the five eyes and the qualities of clairvoyance will also appear, which is called dhyana. By cultivating this profound shamatha, one attains the one-pointedness of the four dhyanas and the four formless absorptions, and ultimately reaches the nine successive abidings of cessation. These nine samadhis are also found in non-Buddhist traditions, so it is a common path for both internal and external schools. However, for those who have too many thoughts and cannot control them, it is necessary to first seek shamatha. If there is no vipashyana, one cannot progress on the path, and one can only find a state of mental peace, hoping that thoughts will not arise. When this thought arises, simply recognize the nature of the thought, look at its face, and it will disappear, merging into oneness with the state of peace. This is called the union or combination of shamatha and vipashyana. The Dagpo Kagyu school calls it the "intermediate stage of transformation." Essentially, this is a practice done through the mind. This practice requires inseparable mindfulness of recognition, so the Kagyu school calls it "mindfulness of grasping emptiness." By continuing to cultivate this, this grasping mindfulness will transform into self-illuminating mindfulness. If one remains undistracted, this is also a skillful method, and one can integrate the appearances of day and night in about a month. Gyalwa Godtsangpa said, "Do not meditate on all appearances as empty, nor meditate on them as non-empty. If you hold onto whatever arises with mindfulness, one month is enough, and the original state of non-elaboration will come." In short, by recognizing the samadhi of the previous shamatha, one attains the union of shamatha and vipashyana, which is called Mahamudra and Dzogchen. Yonggeunpa said, "The movement of the mind's thoughts is the door to reality, and recognizing one's own mind is the key to practice." This is in accordance with that. For those of medium and lower capacity, if they do not believe that letting thoughts arise naturally is practice, then by looking at any thought that arises, everything will disappear into emptiness. In the state of disappearance, one thing appears after another. By looking at them again, they will disappear as before, and this is how the lineage is continued. The song says: The mind has no fixed point.

The expanse of emptiness, the appearance of various phenomena is the door of wisdom. In this naked clarity of being free from conceptual mind, abide in its nature and behold the realm of reality! The ultimate state of meditative insight will come. As it is said, practice accordingly. To this, Mitra Joki says: Whatever arises, hold it with awareness, and wisdom will be liberated in its own place. As it is said, it is an easy practice with great benefits. The common meditation method for the three levels of practitioners is: As the song says: Do not be distracted, do not lose mindfulness, do not fabricate the reality of non-meditation, do not speak falsely of thoughtless awareness, maintain it continuously without eternalism or nihilism, and the union of calm abiding and insight will come. As it is said, although it is easy to understand, do not be distracted in mindfulness, do not modify whatever arises. Do not cling to appearances as real, nor grasp at disappearances as non-existent. Do not pull the thread of conceptual thoughts, but let them flow and simply recognize them. In the Mind Section of Dzogchen it says: In the nature of primordial purity, the realm of reality, awareness arises directly as a momentary thought, like finding a jewel in the depths of the ocean, the Dharmakaya is unmade and uncreated by anyone. As it is said, introduce it accordingly. The three types of inferior beings mostly do not believe in superior seeing, and genuine calm abiding cannot arise either, sometimes they are dull, sometimes agitated, so meditation does not arise, therefore, complete the preliminary practices, sit comfortably with legs crossed in vajra posture on a comfortable cushion, hands in meditative equipoise, tongue touching the palate, eyes lowered to the tip of the nose, etc., complete the seven-point posture, breathe out the nine rounds of purification, visualize the lama on the crown of the head or in the heart and pray. In a state of relaxed body and mind, look at whatever thoughts arise and relax on them. If they arise again, relax on them as before. Do not be happy or sad when they disappear into emptiness. Do not regard the multitude of thoughts as a fault. Do not hope for meditation to succeed, nor fear that it will not. Relax and rest on whatever arises. In great relaxation, a non-thought that is without thought, like a wandering demon, a state without any recollection will come. If you do not grasp it firmly with mindfulness and recognize it, you will not realize that there is a state lurking beneath the thoughts like a puddle under a pot lid. Although this does no harm immediately, it will eventually prevail, so that meditation cannot be accomplished, so it must be firmly grasped. The arising of thoughts is
