Everything is bound by it, therefore, it has the cage and bondage of afflictions. This is as stated by the venerable Nagarjuna in his Precious Garland of the Middle Way: "As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there is clinging to self. If there is clinging to self, there will also be karma," and so on. In the state of intrinsic purity, because of primordial emptiness, there is no basis, so it is free from a basis. Self-awareness, naked and clear, is bestowed. Liberated from the shackles of practice, the order of the path is interrupted. Since everything is known to be primordially liberated, there is no desire for what is to be practiced, so the desire for the result ceases. Therefore, the ground is free, the path is interrupted, and the desire for the result ceases. The awareness of the exhaustion of phenomena transcends expression, and cannot be truly depicted by the words of the vehicle. If measured from one aspect, all vehicles are reasonable, therefore, there is no attachment to superiority or inferiority in the views of vehicles and philosophical systems. Not even a speck of attachment to vehicles remains. Such a yogi, because of realizing self-awareness, all conceptualizations are purified simultaneously with their arising and liberation, vanishing in an instant like drawing a picture on water, so he does not accumulate karma, therefore he has no karma. Although the appearance of non-accumulation of karma seems like attachment and aversion, it has no benefit or harm to him, therefore he is not bound by the ripening of karma. Since he knows samsara as illusory, he does not abide at the end of existence, and since the three kayas are perfected in the manifestation of the path, he does not fall to one side of peace, so he does not abide in existence or peace. In the state of suchness, like the sky, the innate is uninterrupted, therefore he is liberated in the state of the sky. All appearances of the outer world, like the container and its contents, also arise as emptiness, form, and illusion, therefore in the sky of the outer world, the conceptualizations of awareness, ability, and mind flutter about, but they also arise and liberate continuously. The Buddha himself, not having heard it from others, but himself without a teacher, the self-arisen wisdom, the inexpressible nature, manifestly and completely awakened, and so on, these quotations also clearly show that the two have the same intention. Furthermore, the Manjushri Namasamgiti also says: "The first Buddha is without distinctions." The Kalachakra also says: "The supreme first Buddha." Other tantras also say: "Buddha, Buddha, the former Buddha." The White Lotus Sutra also says: "Millions of billions of incalculable kalpas, its measure is the sky."

Moreover, from nothingness, I have attained the supreme enlightenment, and I will always perfectly explain the Dharma. These statements are also consistent and share the same essential point, so one should not only perceive contradictions in the words of the Sugata. However, the lower ones are only partial and not completely perfect, so it should be understood that the higher ones have the characteristic of being clearer and more detailed than them. Furthermore, as previously explained, the basis of samsara and nirvana, and the realm of the Tathagatagarbha, should never be regarded as having different essences. They should be distinguished from the perspective of opposite aspects. The subtle and coarse characteristics, such as the ultimate ground appearance and whether or not awareness abides in the house of light, should also be well understood. Third, refuting disputes about this: Moreover, those who are strongly attached to one view and bound by the chains of dualistic grasping say this: The ultimate nature of reality, the Tathagatagarbha, is solely the nature of the Buddha, which is the exhaustion of all faults and the perfection of all qualities, so it is only the basis of liberation. It is never reasonable to say that it is the common basis of both samsara and nirvana. To this, it should be said: The Dharmadhatu Tathagatagarbha, from its own perspective, is not such that the illusion of samsara is spontaneously accomplished from the beginning. However, from its arising, at the time of the ground appearance, liberation and confusion arise from knowing or not knowing one's own nature. Therefore, there is no contradiction whatsoever in saying that the Tathagatagarbha is the common basis. As it says in the root commentary of the Wish-Fulfilling Treasury: The ground, which also depends on samsara, is like the basis of space, empty from the beginning, selfless in essence, luminous and spontaneously accomplished like the sun and moon, abiding from beginningless time, therefore unchanging, beyond the limits of elaboration, therefore naturally luminous, the essence of body and wisdom inseparable, the Tathagatagarbha abiding in the Dharmadhatu, is the place upon which the dharmas of samsara and nirvana depend, called the alaya of meaning, which is unconditioned and has always abided as the great purity. Moreover, the laws of samsara, karma, and afflictions depend in a way that is without dependence, just as clouds depend on the surface of the sky. They do not touch or cling to the ground, but abide in its nature. However, in terms of meaning, because there is no self-nature, the dependent and the depended upon are not established, but
