It is designated as dependent on appearance. The dharmas of nirvana depend inseparably like the sun and its rays, and abide without separation from the beginning. Moreover, in particular, in the "Treasury of the Supreme Vehicle," it says: Although there is no delusion in the initial ground, when the ground appears, the knowledge that does not recognize its own nature, the root of unindicated ignorance, divides the ground appearance into forms, thus deluding into sentient beings. As it says in the "Garland of Pearls": From the appearance of great distinction, the two, existence and non-existence, arise. Generally, it is called the basis of delusion, because it is mixed with ignorance. The knowable itself also appears to diminish. And: The Dharmakaya is like the sky, suddenly sentient beings are obscured by clouds. The nature of non-delusion also appears as a way of delusion in the mind. And: In the "Mirror of the Heart of Vajrasattva": All these sentient beings of the three realms are deluded from a basis that is nothing at all. And: Vajrasattva has no delusion, yet he shows the way of delusion to sentient beings. Etc., quoted and said. In particular, the distinction between faults and virtues due to conditions is explained as follows: Camphor appears as a virtue in fever, but it appears as a fault in cold sickness. However, just as faults and virtues are not established in the nature of camphor, the way the ground and ground appearance arise also appears as a virtue to those who know their own nature, as a condition for liberation. If one does not know, then that part appears as a fault that is the basis of delusion. However, the ground and its appearance are not established as faults and virtues. Etc., as clearly explained. Moreover, even when the deluded appearance appears as samsara, there is not the slightest movement from the self-nature's primordial ground. And there is not the slightest distinction between good and bad, faults and virtues in the two, samsara and nirvana, which arise from the power of the ground appearance's nature. Establishing purity, equality, and freedom from elaboration is the unique and authentic view of the Great Vehicle. As it says in the "Sutra Teaching That All Dharmas Are Without Arising": Seeing and not seeing are both one way, equality and inequality are likewise equal. There is no Buddha, no Dharma, no Sangha. Whoever knows this is wise. And: In the "All-Creating King Tantra": Other than Buddha, sentient beings, karma and habitual tendencies, and bodhicitta, there is no other Dharma.

etc. are extensively explained. Therefore, regarding the two, samsara and nirvana, that arise from the power and play of the single primordial ground, the Sugata-garbha, there is no distinction of good or bad to be accepted or rejected. If it is not like that, but one posits a separate original ground that relies on the general characteristics of samsara and nirvana that are not the Dharmata-Sugata-garbha, then ask it this: Does such a ground pervade all sentient beings or not? If it pervades, if there is a general ground other than the Sugata-garbha as the pervader, then all sentient beings would also become one continuum, and each sentient being would have two continua, and when one is liberated, all would be liberated, etc., and it would be like the space that the secretist heretics believe in, having nine characteristics and no difference at all. If it does not pervade, then how does space pervade? Sentient beings would not find the opportunity to exist pervading, and it would not be reasonable to be liberated after being deluded, and it would also be unreasonable to explain the appearance of the ground appearance in the bardo, etc., and it would be meaningless to explain such a ground, and contradictions would fall like rain. So, regarding the way of explaining the ground, is there no difference at all between other texts and Dzogchen? The answer is, there is no difference at all in explaining the nature of the primordial original ground itself. However, when samsara and nirvana appear from that, the detailed explanation of the appearance of the ground appearance, the spontaneously accomplished jewel with eight doors, is very hidden in other sutras and tantras, while Dzogchen emphasizes and explains this, and that is the difference. From the power of that key point, even at the time of practicing the path, there are the instructions of the superior, liberation in this life through the Tögal of clear light; the intermediate, liberation in the bardo, the appearance of the ground appearance of the bardo of self-appearing Dharmata; and the inferior, liberation in the bardo of existence, the field of the self-nature Nirmanakaya of the ground appearance, etc. These special characteristics exist in this text but not in others, and this should be known. Spoken by the wise Shri Gyalpo. Good! Good! Good! The commentary on the last testament of Jikme Gyalwai Nyugu, "Naked Seeing of Mind Itself."
