Thus. When focusing on acceptance and rejection of the three—virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral—one must also know these three. Although all phenomena are included in these three, merely knowing these three does not make one omniscient. Then, the fortunate one thought to himself: Now, I must obtain such wisdom that knows all aspects, so what kind of path should I study to obtain it? At that time, since the result follows the cause, one should study the path that is in accordance with the result. Therefore, one should strive for the benefit of sentient beings. However, since sentient beings have different lineages and thoughts, they cannot be subdued by one path alone. Therefore, one should know all the paths of the three vehicles, realize them through seeing, and then teach them to others. Knowing this, one should train the mind in the thought of benefiting others, because this will enter the mindstream and become the cause for generating Bodhicitta. Then, he thought again: For that very reason, although I should learn all the paths of the three vehicles, since I am only seeking the ultimate Great Vehicle, I should truly know the difference between the higher and lower paths and not be misled into the inferior path. Having thought thus, in a state inseparable from skillful means and great compassion, he meditates on the meaning of suchness, which is free from the two exaggerations regarding the basis of aggregates, elements, and sense bases. In that way, before long, genuine Bodhicitta will arise in his mindstream. Thus, these three knowledges are sequentially cause and effect, so they should be known through hearing and thinking. When Bodhicitta is the object, even if only the first is obtained, because of the arising of the aspiration for the ultimate result, the All-Knowing is mentioned first. If combined with the practice of the stages of arising in the mindstream of an individual, then first, in one's own mindstream, generate the direct realization that all phenomena of the basis are selfless, and then generate the unique great compassion that distinguishes it from the inferior path. Then, through the means of showing the path that is in accordance with each of the three types of disciples, ripen, liberate, and purify them, in order to manifest the result of the All-Knowing. Therefore, when combining it with that order and making a concluding statement.

Su. Thus, with "this" and "also this," etc., from the basis of knowledge, the initial collection begins. Therefore, in order not to confuse the characteristics of these three, through hearing and thinking, determine them and make them the object of bodhicitta. When collecting into the six Abhisamayas, it is called characteristics. When collecting into three, it is said that the object is the three aspects. This is because, when determining knowable things through hearing and thinking, from the object to the object-possessor, and from the object-possessor to the object, these dharmas are measured by the single wisdom of the omniscient one. These dharmas are not only the object of omniscience, but also the object of the path-wisdom of the Bodhisattvas. These are not only the object of the former two, but also the object of the basis-wisdom of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. By knowing this, one can cut off the superimposition and denial of the characteristics of all dharmas included in the three: samsara, nirvana, and the path. When making it the object of bodhicitta, merely by the object representing the object-possessor, one can vow to generate in one's own continuum all the realizations of the three vehicles, or the four types of individuals, who know these objects in this way and are able to do such things. Therefore, it becomes the characteristic of Mahayana bodhicitta. As it says in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Possessing skill in going to all vehicles and wisdom." Just as promising to go to all vehicles and all wisdom from the beginning is said to be the supreme promise. Therefore, when these three are combined with bodhicitta, they are definitely the cause of the three: aspiration, engagement, and ultimate bodhicitta, as previously explained. Or they are also the cause of the three: desire, thought, and higher thought. In sequence, first, desire arises for the omniscient one to be obtained, then, relying on the path-wisdom as its cause, thought arises for the benefit of others. And also, by abandoning the wrong path of the inferior path, and by learning the principle of not abiding in the two extremes, that thought itself becomes higher thought by being separated from self-interest. Then, it is easy to understand by entering into the practice of bodhicitta, etc. Or, the way these three accomplish the three jewels in one's own continuum can also be combined with the explanation of the Uttaratantra. First is the all-
