Those who practice asceticism by considering trees with bark, color, and shape similar to sentient beings as sentient beings are the four schools of eternalists. The Purva school believes that there is no past or future life, no cause and effect of karma, and no liberation or release from samsara, holding it like measuring with a scale, which is one school of nihilists. In total, they are called the five Tirthika schools. They all believe in the existence of a self, because they view things from the perspective of existence and permanence, and do not accept the absence of self. The second category is the inner Buddhist followers. Generally, there are many differences between inner and outer paths, but to summarize, "the difference between inner and outer paths lies in refuge." These differences are included here. Among them, the second category is the Hinayana Vaibhashika and Sautrantika, and the Mahayana Yogachara and Madhyamaka. Although Hinayana is divided into Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha, the view of Pratyekabuddha is the same as Sautrantika, and the mind generation and behavior are similar to the general Shravaka, so it is not explained separately. Shravaka is divided into two: one is the Vaibhashika, which relies on treatises such as the Great Commentary on the Abhidharma, and believes that atoms and consciousness are indivisible, and ultimate truth is truly existent; the other is the Sautrantika, which believes that the appearance of external objects is only the appearance of internal senses, and external objects do not truly exist, relying on the Abhidharma Pitaka. Both of these believe that the absence of self of a person is correct, and do not acknowledge the existence of Mahayana, etc. Generally speaking, there are many differences between Mahayana and Hinayana, but to summarize: those who do not wish to attain perfect enlightenment for the benefit of others are Hinayana, and those who wish to are Mahayana, which is the so-called difference between Mahayana and Hinayana lies in the mind generation. Mahayana is further divided into Yogachara and Madhyamaka according to the difference in views. Yogachara believes that all dharmas are contained in the three natures of parikalpita, paratantra, and parinishpanna, phenomena are mind, and mind is self-cognizant and self-luminous, and is truly existent, so it is called Yogachara. Madhyamaka believes that all dharmas are contained in the two truths, ultimate truth is free from the eight extremes of elaboration, and conventional truth is dependent origination, like illusion and dream, which is the highest peak of all views. These four are called the four major schools, and there are many internal classifications. The second point is about the wisdom of thinking, there are four: the object of thought is difficult to obtain, impermanence, cause and effect, and faith.

There are four types of contemplation on self-nature. The first has four points: the difficulty of finding the essence, the excellence of endowments, the rarity of examples, and the difference in numbers. That is, contemplating the leisure of the essence, contemplating the excellence of endowments, contemplating the rarity of examples, and contemplating the difference in numbers. Among the four, the first is not being born in the three lower realms, the heaven of non-perception, the borderlands, those with wrong views, the dark aeon, or the mute, which are the eight states of unfreedom, hence it is leisure. The second is being born as a human, born in the central land, having complete faculties, not having reversed karma, and having faith in the Dharma, these are the five self-endowments. The coming of the Buddha, the teaching of the Dharma, the existence of the teachings, entering the Buddhist path, and being embraced by a virtuous friend, these are the five other-endowments. The third is like a yoke floating in the great ocean, with a turtle's neck fitting into the hole, it is said that obtaining human form is extremely rare. The fourth is, contemplating the number of sentient beings, obtaining human form is said to be as rare as a universal monarch. Second, contemplating impermanence: outer and inner, noble beings, lords of beings, the uncertainty of when death will occur, and the variety of examples and meanings, there are six. That is, contemplating the outer world and meditating on impermanence, contemplating the inner sentient beings and meditating on impermanence, contemplating noble beings and meditating on impermanence, contemplating the lords of beings and meditating on impermanence, contemplating the uncertainty of when death will occur and meditating on impermanence, and contemplating the variety of examples and meanings and meditating on impermanence, there are six, which are easy to understand. Third, cause and effect, virtue and non-virtue, general and specific. There are ten causes, and in general, the result of non-virtue is six, and virtue is three, each with four specifics. That is, there are two: cause and effect. There are ten virtues and ten non-virtues. These are killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct, which are the three actions of the body. Lying, slander, harsh speech, and idle talk, which are the four actions of speech. Covetousness, malice, and wrong views, which are the three non-virtuous actions of the mind, totaling ten. The opposite of these ten is the ten virtues. The results are general and specific. In general, the result of non-virtue is the six realms of existence, and if the ten virtues are not grasped by skillful means, then they are the three higher realms, and if they are grasped, then they are the three liberations. Therefore, wherever one is born in the six realms of existence, it is the nature of suffering. Hell has the suffering of heat and cold, hungry ghosts have the suffering of hunger and thirst, animals have the suffering of ignorance and exploitation, Asuras have the suffering of fighting, gods have the suffering of falling, and humans have the suffering of birth and old age.
