The meaning of pursuing the afterlife lies in cultivating faith in the afterlife and adopting methods to attain happiness in the afterlife. Firstly, it is divided into two parts: remembering that this world will not last long and will eventually lead to death; and contemplating the transformations in the afterlife, namely the suffering and happiness of beings. The first part is further divided into four aspects: the faults of not cultivating mindfulness of death, the benefits of cultivating it, how to generate the thought of mindfulness of death, and the methods of cultivating mindfulness of death. This is further divided into three aspects: contemplating that death is certain, contemplating that there is no certainty when death will occur, and contemplating that at the time of death, nothing other than the Dharma will be of any help. Firstly, contemplating that death is certain is further divided into three aspects: contemplating that the Lord of Death will surely come and cannot be averted by any means; contemplating that life is constantly decreasing and there is no increase; contemplating that even while alive, there is no time to practice the Dharma, and death is certain. Secondly, contemplating that there is no certainty when death will occur is divided into three aspects: contemplating that there is no certainty about the lifespan in Jambudvipa (referring to the world we live in); contemplating that there are many causes of death and few causes of survival; contemplating that the body is very fragile, therefore there is no certainty when death will occur. Thirdly, contemplating that at the time of death, nothing other than the Dharma will be of any help, including the body, possessions, and relatives. Secondly, contemplating the transformations in the afterlife, namely the suffering and happiness of beings. Among the two, contemplating the suffering of the lower realms is divided into three aspects: contemplating the suffering of hells, animals, and hungry ghosts. Firstly, it is divided into four aspects: sentient beings in hell are divided into eight great hot hells, neighboring hells, cold hells, and ephemeral hells. Firstly, the eight great hot hells include: पुनरुज्जीवन (Tibetan: ཡང་སོས།, Sanskrit Devanagari: पुनरुज्जीवन, Sanskrit Romanization: punarujjīvana, Chinese literal meaning: पुनरुज्जीवन), Collection (Tibetan: བསྡུས་འཇོམས།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:), Calling (Tibetan: ངུ་འབོད།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:), Great Calling (Tibetan: ངུ་འབོད་ཆེན་པོ།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:), Hot (Tibetan: ཚ་བ།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:), Extremely Hot (Tibetan: རབ་ཏུ་ཚ་བ།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:), Uninterrupted (Tibetan: མནར་མེད།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:) suffering. The cold hells are divided into eight types: Blister Hell, Blister Bursting Hell, Tooth-chattering Hell, кыхуд (Tibetan: ཀྱི་ཧུད་ཟེར་བ།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:), Achu (Tibetan: ཨ་ཆུ་ཟེར་བ།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:), Splitting like an উৎপল (Tibetan: ཨུཏྤལ་ལྟར་གས་པ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: utpala, Sanskrit Romanization: utpala, Chinese literal meaning: utpala), Splitting like a lotus, and Splitting like a great lotus. Contemplating the suffering of hungry ghosts is divided into three aspects: food and drink have external obstacles, food and drink have internal obstacles, and food and drink themselves are obstacles. Secondly, adopting methods to attain happiness in the afterlife is divided into two aspects: entering the gateway to the Dharma, which is practicing refuge; and cultivating faith, which is the root of all happiness. Firstly, it is divided into four aspects: relying on what as the cause of taking refuge, relying on what as the object of taking refuge, in what way to take refuge, and the order of what should be learned after taking refuge. Relying on it to take refuge --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
