It is said, because there is the thought of separation. Awareness itself does not make the aspect of clear awareness an object. For example, just as erecting a stick in the supportless sky, or like white clouds gathering densely, it is necessary to have no supporting object whatsoever. Like the infinite sky, etc., now taking this clear and aware mind as an object and meditating, especially thinking that all phenomena are like the sky, etc., by meditating in this way, the sky, etc., become the object of focus. Such samadhi is also not the innate mind, it belongs to the side of the sudden, temporary mind, so it is said that these phenomena need to be purified by the path. The external way of emptiness is similar to other-emptiness, but if examined here, it is believed that the expanse is not established as anything, so it is different from other-emptiness. The Madhyamikas believe that from the truly empty cause, the truly empty result arises, and if all phenomena are truly established, then they must be established in the presence of the noble one's equipoise. For example, if illusory horses and elephants are truly established, then they must be established from the basis of appearance, similarly, if phenomena are established from their own side, then even if examined and analyzed, they must be established towards us from the side of the basis of appearance itself. Such establishment is the way phenomena themselves abide, it must be the nature of phenomena. If that is the case, it must also be the object of the noble one's equipoise, but they believe that such awareness cannot withstand analysis, therefore phenomena do not exist. In general, it is believed that all phenomena are the magical display of conceptual thought, and it is believed that all magical displays of conceptual thought are truly empty. According to the Dzogchen view, the basis of appearance of all phenomena is believed to be the expanse. Moreover, it is also necessary to ascertain the state of emptiness of the expanse and the state of the inseparability of expanse and awareness. Remaining equally in the realm of awareness, and in the post-meditation, taking the uninterrupted pure, illusory appearance aspects of awareness power, the false, chaotic, meaningless, and without essence parts, without attachment, as the path. Therefore, unlike other paths, in samadhi, one remains in a state like the sky, and in post-meditation, the practice of emptiness like illusion arises. The above statement that awareness has no object means that it has no object of focus, not that it is completely without, because the object of awareness is the expanse itself. Retention and the memory of volition are also, after recognizing awareness, relying on effort, the meaning of not allowing awareness to wander from there, not meditating on awareness as the way of the object of meditation and the meditator.

This is not what needs to be done. The reason for examining the origin, dwelling, and destination of this Dharma is: In order to clearly recognize rigpa, it is necessary to cut off the elaboration of conceptualization, and this is the reason for cutting it off. Therefore, whether it is appearance or mind, there is no need to search for whether there is a truly established origin, dwelling, and destination, because even if you search and realize that there is none, you will not be able to cut off the elaboration of conceptualization. Therefore, if you examine the mind by dividing it into three parts of time, and you cannot find the one who arises, the one who dwells, the one who goes, etc., because it is emptiness, the target disappears, and you become mindless and stunned, then this is a unique realization that there is no one who arises in the mind, etc. Similarly, the way in which external appearances, such as vases, are empty without an origin, dwelling, or destination is also explained. For example, if you search for the meaning of the name "vase," you will not find it, because the mouth of the vase is not the vase, and you analyze it in this way. Similarly, the belly, etc., is not the vase, but only a rough observation, not a detailed observation, that is, do not observe with a strict intelligence. Because observation will only lead to more conceptualization. When you observe in this way, the object of focus, such as the vase, is empty, so the conceptualization with a focus also stops, and you become mindless and stunned, then you realize that there is no origin, dwelling, or destination. Merely realizing that the truly established mind has no origin, dwelling, or destination is common with Madhyamaka, and is not the unique nature of Dzogchen. Therefore, when a beginner initially examines the origin, dwelling, and destination in this way, and becomes mindless and stunned, that mindless state at that time is temporary, so separate it, and there is a natural, rootless, bare, clear, and aware part, recognize it as rigpa, and that rootless, clear, and aware part has a mindless part, and you must recognize it as emptiness that is a non-affirming negation of the expanse by eliminating the two objects to be negated. If you recognize it, then that kind of mindless rigpa is called Dharmakaya rigpa. In this way, a beginner examines the origin, dwelling, and destination, and thereby nakedly recognizes rigpa, then from then on there is no need to examine it in that way, but you can directly use the meeting of rigpa with your own mind as the path. In the Kalachakra Tantra and other texts, when examining the origin, dwelling, and destination, although there is a statement that "it is not established in ultimate truth," in reality, the meaning of "not established" means that the object is not established.
