As stated, it is as before. The difference between the expanse and awareness is: Like the made and impermanent, they are distinguished by opposite aspects, but in essence, they are one. The expanse is clear of the obscurations of what is to be negated, appearances, and thoughts, so the expanse and the realm are clear, and awareness is established as awareness. However, if the expanse and awareness are of one essence, it may be acceptable to mainly use the expanse aspect as the path, but even if it is acceptable, if one abides in the non-conceptual expanse, it is easy to fall into dullness, and this also leads to agitation and so on, and the qualities of the awareness aspect, such as the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating, are difficult to develop. If one abides in the awareness aspect, the qualities that are the opposite of those faults develop, so it is established as awareness. Therefore, one does not first introduce the expanse and then abide in it. If one introduces awareness and then abides in it, awareness easily disappears into the expanse. The reason for this is that by abiding in awareness, the karmic winds that activate awareness naturally subside and gradually become non-conceptual, and when the awareness aspect becomes non-conceptual and disappears, one applies the symbol of the blending of the expanse and awareness. Like the peak of existence, not manifesting the path of transcendence is because the power of calm abiding is strong and the wisdom of insight is weak, so it is as if it has disappeared. The calm abiding of awareness is of one essence with awareness, and although the clarity of mind and the clarity of awareness exist as one essence, conceptualization has not dissolved into the nature of awareness. The life force of conceptualization is awareness, so it has the ability to grasp objects. The life force of both samsara and nirvana is the expanse, so it cannot be mixed into the expanse, so it abides in the expanse. The life force of hatred is the expanse. Although phenomena do not exist in the face of the expanse, they exist in the face of the power of awareness, ignorance, and conceptual delusion. According to the Longdé (ཀློང་སྡེ།) tradition, all conceptualizations are the power of awareness, and all appearances are the radiance of awareness. According to the category of instructions, these two are the power of awareness. Having grasped the self-sustaining nature of unconditioned awareness, like the one to be trained and the trainer being inseparable and blended into one, the nature of innate mindfulness, possessing three characteristics such as non-distraction, the expanse of phenomena is not a division of habitual tendencies, but is the alaya. The distinction between mind and awareness should not be overly confused, and they are distinguished by whether they are conditioned or unconditioned. The alaya and the dharmakaya are distinguished by whether they are the basis for habitual tendencies. The mental consciousness and the afflicted mind are distinguished by the way they grasp the general and specific aspects of objects. Generally, in the context of guru yoga and so on, the reason for saying that the guru is the Buddha is this.

There are two types: provisional and definitive. The provisional meaning is that, in order for disciples of lesser capacity to see the lama as a Buddha, this lama is indeed the actual manifestation body of the Buddha. Just as the Buddhas gathered by other tantras, in order to tame sentient beings, manifest the form body that appears in whatever way is suitable for taming. Through the compassion and aspiration of the impermanent, newly arisen Buddhas, and through the merit of the sentient beings to be tamed, if one understands well the nature of dependent arising, which appears like a reflection of the moon in water, and prays with faith and devotion, then it is the nature of things that the compassion and blessings of the Buddha will enter. However, if the lama himself has weak wisdom and grasps the form body as a real entity, then that too has not gone beyond impure appearance clinging, and the faith and devotion directed towards it becomes self-centered by the mind, making it difficult for wisdom to arise in one's own mind-stream, and thus a pure proximate cause will not come about. Therefore, as it is said in the Diamond Sutra, "Those who see me in form, etc., do not see me." This is according to the common view of Sutra and Tantra. Then, according to the definitive, uncommon view, in the presence of fortunate disciples, especially according to the definitive profound Sutras and the three inner Tantras, this lama is the actual Buddha. How so? The lama's mind, which is inseparable from depth and clarity, is the primordial wisdom, the unchanging, permanent, unconditioned great Buddha Dharmakaya itself. As it is said, "The Buddhas are like the nature of reality, the guides are the Dharmakaya." Thus, the great union of wisdom, the actual Buddha Dharmakaya inseparable from the ground and the result, its own manifestation or play, the empty image, the lama's body, speech, and mind, appearing as an inexhaustible wheel of ornaments, is the actual Rupakaya. In essence, these two are inseparable like water and waves, the great equality or the great union, the lama Samantabhadra and Vajradhara or Vajrasattva, etc., the actual nature of all families and mandalas. This special certainty is the pure appearance of the field that is in accordance with the true state of affairs. The faith and devotion directed towards this is a pure mind, in accordance with the true state of affairs, so it is crucial to know this point for the arising of realization on the profound path. If so, the qualities of the Buddha in one's own mind...
