Thereafter, contemplate that all appearances of forms, sounds, memories, and thoughts are manifestations of the bardo, remembering the lama and instructions, and blending heart and mind, etc. At the time of death, there are methods of transference of consciousness, divided into transference of consciousness, entering another body, and entering the Dharmakaya and Wisdom Body. The first is Trekchö, and the second is the practice of Tögal. Among these, at the point four fingers above the complete opening at the crown of this body, there is the realm of the precious crown jewel. There, from the heart, visualize your consciousness as the full form of the lama, complete with five-colored light rays, and transfer it from the central channel. This is the method of Trekchö transference. Tögal involves knowing the secret path and transferring consciousness into the Dharmakaya and Wisdom Body, as Rinpoche said. The method of entering the Dharmakaya and Wisdom Body is as follows: In the "Questions and Answers on Practice," it says, "When you practice Tögal, the deity (the oral tradition says it can be transferred to the center of the bindu, or to the bloodline—commentary) appears. No matter how much or how little, completely sever it in the realm of the spontaneously present Nirmanakaya, such as Manifest Joy, and let your own awareness, in the form of a sphere of light, emerge from the center of the heart, like the flame of a butter lamp, through the eye gate, and transfer it into the heart of the deity. In the state of non-duality between the deity and your own mind, free from the duality of seer and seen, rest in your natural state." Thus it is said. Dodrupchen said to his attendant, "At the crown of your head, there is Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa. You must say to fix your consciousness in his heart." In "Essence of Clear Light," it says to the attendant Sherab Zangpo, "Strike the crown of his head with a vajra, and say, 'Appearances are attachment to the deity's form, etc.'" For many such reasons, it is said that this time is extremely important. When air dissolves into air, and air dissolves into consciousness, the external breath ceases. When consciousness dissolves into space, the internal breath ceases. Consciousness is the alaya consciousness. When space dissolves into clear light, there are the three: sound, light, and rays, as well as the appearance of assemblies such as wrathful deities, and the thread of Vajrasattva, which is the appearance of fine strands of light, etc. There are many ways of appearing, so it is not definite. In short, there are five ways of appearing in the Dharmata Bardo, of which one is Trekchö, and four are the ways of appearing and liberating through spontaneously present Tögal. Then, the aspect of the ground appearance dawns as clear light.

The spontaneous appearance is a cluster of bodies. Wisdom and the four combined. In the appearance of the spontaneous precious one, when one recognizes the nature of both pure and impure doors, it appears like the edge of compassion and non-duality, and dissolves into the basis of power. The practice of the field of the self-existing Nirmanakaya has three aspects: field purification, transference of consciousness, and recollection. If the six recollections are combined with the one present Samadhi, then by praying to the Lama, who is the essence of the ocean of refuge inseparable from the deity and the Lama, and blending heart and mind, one recollects the deity. At that time, with the Trekchö key, one introduces the recollection appearance as the wheel of wisdom. With Tögal key, one introduces the self-appearance as the great mandala of wisdom, which is the recollection of the instructions. Viewing the naked, clear, and empty awareness itself is meditation, which is the recollection of the path. Having remained in equanimity, abandoning the activities of the three doors, in the state of recollection of the self-abiding contemplation, abandoning the delusions of the three times, scattering the husk of experiential attachment, and not moving from the expanse of the awareness-emptiness Dharmakaya, is the recollection of the place of birth. Although the tantra speaks of clairvoyance afterwards, here, recollection is spoken of first in terms of the manner of birth. Some recollections are liberated in that very moment, which is the field of the spontaneously accomplished Sambhogakaya. Some are the field of the self-existing Nirmanakaya. Thus, there are two ways of liberation. At the time of the three spaces, whether Trekchö or Tögal, one entrusts awareness to the external space, which is the aspect of the intermediate space devoid of both matter and consciousness, or the emptiness of the adorned space. Without straying to anything else, the experience of the inner space, the emptiness-clarity of mind itself, free from elaboration, arises. Without clinging to this, relaxing slightly, when the clear, secret space, the union of awareness-emptiness, manifests, the three spaces manifest. The thought of grasping space is purified in the Dharmadhatu, as the treasure revealer Tsang said. Although one might think this is awareness, because it is pure, the latter two must be purified in the Dharmadhatu. The external Dharmadhatu of Tögal also has a time when one abides in the emptiness-clarity of mind itself, free from elaboration. Or in the manner of arising from that, or in that expanse, the appearance of light arises, which is the Dharmadhatu. Therefore, the oral tradition says that this is the root of delusion of the Dharmata realm during the Bardo. To meditate by combining the three spaces into one is to entrust the external space to the goal of emptiness.
