It is not said. In the Kalachakra Six-Branch Yoga, it is called the black line of the empty form. In the Great Perfection Heart Essence, this is only its meaning and method of practice. Its name is called Rigpa Dang Dorje Lugu Gyud (awareness sound Vajra continuous line). One's own awareness sound appears in the realm of the senses. For example, if you place a full bowl of water where the sun is, the sun's rays will appear as a blue halo on the light of the bowl. If you move the water bowl, it will also move. If the water does not move, it will not move either. The tantra says: Awareness Vajra continuous line, subtle like a knot in a horse's tail. The intervals are like mustard seeds, and it is accompanied by going and coming. This is the characteristic of the continuous line. All the practices of Great Perfection Light Thogal must mainly stabilize this. This is to grasp whether self-awareness is distracted or not. If the mind is not distracted, it will stay bright. If the mind wavers, it will also move, do not follow its movement. Both the eyes and the mind must be grasped. In the Lion's Roar Perfection Sutra, it says: If you want to see the body of all Buddhas, look at the awareness Vajra continuous line. If you want to be inseparable from the mind of all Buddhas, do not be separated from the awareness Vajra continuous line. And so on, there are detailed explanations. Therefore, no matter what you do, whether walking, staying, sitting, or lying down, as long as you grasp yourself and continue to strive, it is the essence of all practices, please keep it in mind. Regarding retreats, in general, if you want to be able to produce results once in this meditation practice, and be able to grasp the dreams of the night and the clear light, etc., then temporarily do not mix with the mundane affairs of this life at all, only go to uninhabited valleys, practice asceticism and silence, retreats, etc., if you can devote your whole life to it, you will definitely be able to produce results. For those of us who are mixed with livelihood and clothing, and other mundane affairs, and need to deal with others, it is difficult to produce results and power in retreat. However, at any time and in any situation, whether walking, staying, sitting, lying down, eating, sleeping, speaking, etc., and prostrations, circumambulations, recitations, etc., whenever you do anything, you must nakedly reveal the face of awareness.

Summarize what has been recognized into one whole. Whatever arises, whether it is abiding, or changing, whether it is happiness or suffering, good or bad, etc. At that time, do not analyze, follow, negate, or affirm them at all. Instead, take the naked awareness that recognizes these things as the essence of meditation. If you are scattered into the flow of thoughts, when you recognize it again, just leave it as it is at the moment of recognition, without needing any other negation or affirmation. If there is a situation where you do not notice that you have been scattered, that is the fault of dullness, so make the awareness clear and sharp. Furthermore, if you are scattered due to the words of others, etc., strengthen mindfulness and awareness so that you can control yourself. In short, it is necessary to accomplish all actions without forgetting or being confused from the state where awareness can recognize its own nature. If it is not like that, if you scatter mindfulness during actions and speech, and if you cannot attend to other actions while cultivating mindfulness, then this meditation will never see the self-nature of true insight, but will only fall into a state of calm abiding. In general, Mahamudra takes mindfulness as the basis of meditation, while Dzogchen separates awareness and non-awareness as the boundary between whether it is meditation or not. The difference between these two is that cultivating mindfulness requires a slightly artificial effort, and the one who feels anxious because of worrying about being scattered is itself a thought. The Dzogchen view is that the awareness that can recognize that all appearances arise in a state of non-acceptance and non-rejection is called self-awareness. It is enough to not be separated from this self-awareness, there is no need to worry about being scattered, and there is no need to deliberately maintain mindfulness. If you recognize your own nature, all thoughts are meditation. If you do not recognize your own nature, even if you abide stably and the environment is suitable, it is not meditation, it is just a difference in experience. Therefore, the essence of practice is to strive to recognize self-awareness. As for recitation, if you have a habit of reciting in the past, then it is good to still focus on that now. Because wisdom deities are essentially undifferentiated, there is absolutely no need for too much acceptance and rejection. As the sutras and tantras unanimously say, accomplishing one deity is the same as accomplishing all. In the future, when you encounter obstacles, etc., if you are an ordinary worldly person, you will need other methods such as rituals and longevity practices, but in general, practitioners and especially meditators, should be wary of obstacles and evil spirits, etc.
