Although violations cannot be allowed in all circumstances, when one is afflicted by illness and in great pain, regarding the affairs of the lama's field and so on, and some of the individual disciplinary actions that arise from situations such as 'bedding, seating, and preliminaries,' if one is unable to accomplish them, and one's mind is not displeased by doing so, but rather bows respectfully, and avoids using those things when not ill, even if one uses them, it is not like being without faith, and therefore it does not become a sin of violation, because they also possess the virtuous intention of wanting to accomplish them if their faculties allow. Such a lama, even if he has not given permission, there is no fault in using them. Furthermore, regarding how to be without fault, the Vajra Heart Ornament says: 'Illness and diminished power, affairs and, for the sake of others and great meaning, without fault, the need for the teachings and, obtaining ability and permission, command and obstacles, from these one should know there is no fault.' A summary of these meanings: The eighth common point is to show the summary of these meanings: What is the need to say more here? Do what pleases the lama, abandon all that displeases the lama, and strive to do those things. 'Real accomplishment follows the Vajra Master,' the Vajradhara himself said, knowing this, with all things, make the lama completely happy.' That is to say, in short, what is the use of saying so much about serving the lama here? If you distill the essence to serve, you must know and determine what is the cause of making your own holy lama happy, and then strive to accomplish it; whatever is the cause of making him unhappy, you must completely abandon it, not just in words, but strive to do it from many aspects. The reason for this is that all worldly and transmundane accomplishments come from following the Vajra Master, and if he is pleased, it will be accomplished, and if he is not pleased, it will not be accomplished. The Vajradhara himself has said this, so understand this and use all the things of your three doors to make the Lama Vajra Master happy. As the Vajra Heart Ornament says: 'Therefore, with all methods, make the Vajra Holder Lama, happy by conforming to him. If he is pleased, all the Buddhas are pleased.' Third, the meaning of the conclusion is divided into two parts, the first part is the order of teaching the Dharma: with pure intention --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The disciple should take refuge in the Three Jewels and follow the Guru. One should bestow recitation, and through bestowing mantras, etc., make it a vessel of the Dharma. One should read and grasp the fourteen root downfalls. Thus it is said. Regarding this, when initially explaining, according to the view of Jetsun Drokmi Lotsawa, on the night of preparation, the disciple takes refuge and generates Bodhicitta, and the next day explains it before the main practice. The view of Jowo Naropa is that the great Guru Mallo believes that this should be explained at the beginning of the connection between the Guru and disciple in the Dharma of Vajrayana. In any case, for disciples with completely pure Bodhicitta intention, first, the root of individual liberation vows—taking refuge in the Three Jewels, that is, for those with common and extraordinary refuge vows, temporarily setting aside empowerment, in order to enable them to follow the teachings of the holy Guru, they should recite day and night, six times, etc., without forgetting the words, and understand their meaning, let them remember it well, and bestow it for the sake of properly adopting and abandoning. After explaining this, through the ripening empowerment of the lord of mantras, and bestowing blessings, etc., in accordance with the rules, make it a vessel of the Dharma. 'Dharma' means, 'Supreme' refers to Buddha Vajradhara the Great, 'Dharma' refers to the four classes of Tantras, the expresser he spoke, the expressed two stages of the path, and yoga with and without signs, etc. By listening to and practicing these, make them capable of becoming vessels of Dharma. Afterwards, one must properly protect the vows and precepts obtained during empowerment. If one does not possess these, then whether one practices the two stages of the path oneself, or explains them to others, it will only become a cause for falling into the lower realms. Therefore, although many categories of vows have been proclaimed, whatever one practices, one must read and grasp these fourteen root downfalls, because these will fundamentally destroy the vows of mantra, and one must strive vigorously from many aspects to avoid being tainted by root downfalls. Moreover, one must cherish and protect even the subtle aspects of the vows like one's own eyes. Those who practice the path without having received empowerment, or even if they have received empowerment, do not know how to protect the vows and precepts such as the fourteen root downfalls, or even if they know, they do not care and practice wrongly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
