The Buddha of meditation is merely the removal of obscurations, hence it is called the result of separation. The path is also the cause of separation, merely imputing cause and effect, not truly. This result of separation is also not the separate analysis cessation mentioned in the Abhidharma, "Separation is the exhaustion by wisdom." As stated in the Sutra Requested by King Dhāraṇīśvara, "From the beginning it is exhausted, therefore it is called exhaustion." Thus, it is the ultimate result of separation and the truth of cessation. If one thinks that obscurations are abandoned by the power of the path, and that it becomes the same as exhaustion by wisdom, then obscurations are not abandoned from the perspective of the dharmadhātu, but from the perspective of the individual. Therefore, the individual who attains enlightenment obtains the separation of exhaustion by wisdom, but it is merely a nominal designation. Because the dharmadhātu has not been stained by defilements from the beginning, it is not newly exhausted by wisdom. Therefore, the non-dual wisdom that pervades equality in the nature of reality, the tathāgatagarbha adorned with all the ultimate qualities of the Buddha, free from all elaboration yet possessing all aspects of wisdom, this is the unchanging great perfection. This alone is the undeluded reality, and because it is the unerring experience of the wisdom of the noble ones, it is truly established and unchanging, and is constant, stable, and enduring. This tathāgatagarbha, abiding with qualities such as marks and signs, is taught in various ways in all the tantric scriptures. It is also called conventional, also called grasper and grasped, also called deluded appearance. In short, no phenomenon of appearance and sound stains the perfected reality. And the non-staining is not that the conventional exists in reality, but cannot stain the dharmadhātu and exists separately. It is not like that. Because the conventional is merely a deluded appearance, it is not established in reality like a rabbit's horn, therefore there is nothing to be stained, so it is unstained. Therefore, the perfected reality, the tathāgatagarbha, is never empty of its own nature, but is empty of others because it has been empty of the conventional from the beginning. The perfected reality, the ultimate truth, is empty of others, not empty of itself. Therefore, all conventional phenomena are empty of others, and on top of that, they are also empty of themselves, while the ultimate is only the nature of others.
