Although there isn't a single, independent being, generally, I consider "I" to be merely substantial and truly existent. Although due to the fault of self-grasping, there isn't actually a path to liberation, having taken refuge in the Three Jewels, and possessing the discipline, study, contemplation, and meditation motivated by the desire for liberation, one gradually becomes fortunate enough to attain liberation. The Vaibhashikas consider the Seven Treatises of Abhidharma to be the Buddha's words, and they consider the Sutra Pitaka to be intentional, with many statements of provisional meaning. Therefore, they believe that views must be accepted according to the rules of the treatises, and they identify the treatises with the Great Commentary (Mahavibhasha). The Sautrantikas, on the other hand, believe that among the dharmas mentioned above, unconditioned phenomena and non-associated compositional factors are merely imputed, and therefore not truly existent. Furthermore, they believe that the coarse continuum of form and the continuum of consciousness are not truly established. Past and future dharmas are also merely imputed, and only the present moment's atom and the moment of consciousness are indivisible and truly existent. The eye does not see form, and eye consciousness does not see actual form. What eye consciousness sees is the appearance of form in eye consciousness itself, which is known as the aspect of form, which is what consciousness recognizes. However, they believe that the external form and other objects that create the appearance of the aspect exist. The Seven Treatises of Abhidharma are not the Buddha's words, and the Great Commentary and other treatises have errors, so the tenets must conform to the Sutra Pitaka. Both of these tenet systems believe that the Buddha's teachings are only those Vinaya Pitakas spoken for the sake of the Shravakas, and that all the sutras known as Mahayana sutras, such as the Prajnaparamita, Ratnakuta, and Mahasamghata, are not the Buddha's words. The difference between Mahayana and Hinayana is the difference in the actions of individuals, not the difference in scriptures. That's what they say. All that they consider to be truly existent, and their denial of the Mahayana, are faults of erroneous tenets, while their non-self of persons and momentary destruction, among other things, are not mistaken in their respective positions. The Mind-Only school believes that external objects such as form, like the forms in dreams, are merely consciousness and only appear as such. They do not appear as such externally, for example,

Regarding form, what is known as the eye faculty is the mind that appears as the eye. Therefore, the eye has no self-nature. What is known as form is also the mind that appears as form, so form has no self-nature. It is merely the appearance of eye consciousness arising from these. Therefore, the perception that all three are different is mistaken, as they are of the same essence in the nature of consciousness. When eye consciousness sees form, it is seeing itself. Other than consciousness, which is the cause of the appearance of form, there is absolutely no form that exists externally as a creator of appearances. However, without examination or analysis, one might assume that the eye sees form, etc., but upon examination, form is not established. The consciousness that appears as form is truly established. Therefore, this refers to the fact that the essence of all consciousnesses, such as consciousness, is truly established. The apprehended aspect, which appears as if it exists externally, and the apprehending aspect, which appears as if it exists internally, are both mistaken. Therefore, there is no duality of apprehended and apprehending. Consciousness that has abandoned the duality of apprehended and apprehending is considered to be true. Because they believe this, the apprehended and apprehending aspects are not established as different, thus the duality of apprehended and apprehending is resolved. Furthermore, the mere self-nature of consciousness is considered to be wisdom. Although the Mind-Only school claims to have refuted the apprehended and apprehending, when measured by higher philosophical systems, they have not refuted the apprehended and apprehending. They merely acknowledge that the apprehended and apprehending are not different entities. However, by acknowledging this, they end up acknowledging that the apprehending itself exists. Thus, according to their view, the appearances of form, etc., as external objects, and the consciousness that appears, are truly established. Moreover, the mere opposite aspect of consciousness is considered to be wisdom free from apprehended and apprehending. And, the aspect of apprehending is not considered to be consciousness itself, but rather only the part that appears different from the consciousness that appears as an object, which is a mistake, while the other aspects are not mistaken. As for the Madhyamaka school, there are two types: the lesser Madhyamaka and the greater Madhyamaka. The lesser is known in Tibet as "self-emptiness" and is known in both China and Tibet as asserting the absence of inherent existence. This is the system of Buddhapalita, Lekden, Vimuktisena, Shantarakshita, and their followers. Although they have many different internal distinctions in their philosophical tenets, they all agree
