is said to mean "requiring guidance." Furthermore, the Hearer Vehicle is said to mean "requiring guidance." The unsurpassed Great Vehicle is said to mean "definitive meaning." To say that the Thus-Gone One is impermanent, changing and transforming, is "requiring guidance." To say that the Thus-Gone One is permanent, unchanging and unmoving, is said to mean "definitive meaning." Whatever is understood and realized by the Hearer Vehicle is "requiring guidance." What is understood and known by the teaching of the Bodhisattva is said to mean "definitive meaning." To say that the Thus-Gone One needs to be nourished with food is "requiring guidance." To say that it is permanent, abiding, unchanging, and unmoving is said to mean "definitive meaning." To say that the Thus-Gone One's passing into nirvana is like a fire extinguished when the wood is consumed is "requiring guidance." To say that the Thus-Gone One has entered into the very essence of reality is said to mean "definitive meaning." Thus it is said. It is stated in the Sutra Teaching the Extensive Differentiation of Inexhaustible Intelligence. In some treatises, explaining the meaning that can be led to other intentions as provisional meaning is also a means to lead it back to the ultimate definitive meaning, so these are not contradictory. Nāgārjuna and Asaṅga, in the context of the "Three Turnings of the Wheel," etc., in the Root Wisdom it says, "The Blessed One's knowledge of existence and non-existence, in Katyayana's instruction, forbade both existence and non-existence." Thus, in the first turning of the wheel, the teaching of freedom from extremes was established. And it is said, "Nirvana is the only truth." etc. Therefore, the intention of the intermediate turning of the wheel is also to teach the ultimate other-emptiness. All the texts of Maitreya and the Asaṅga brothers are a condensation of the intention of all three turnings of the wheel into one. For example, the Ornament of the Sutras alone explains the intention of all three turnings of the wheel, and does not teach three different views and tenets, but teaches only one. In the context of "medicine for the sick," in the Laṅkāvatāra Sutra it says, "Just as a doctor gives medicine to a sick person, so too, the Buddha teaches sentient beings about mind-only." Thus it is. In the context of "the example of learning letters," Nāgārjuna's

In the Ratnavali, it says: "How are grammarians, like teaching to read post-positioned letters, so the Buddha to those to be tamed, teaches a little of the Dharma that can be endured." So it is said. In the section "Katyayana's Instructions," it says: "Katyayana, for what reason does this world cling to existence and non-existence as real? Therefore, one cannot be completely liberated from birth, old age, sickness, and death, sorrow, weeping, pain, discomfort, and confusion, and cannot be liberated from the cycle of the five paths." So it is said. In the section "The powerful one, etc., is also holy, etc.," it says: "By the feet of Vajrapani, the great powerful one of knowledge is obtained, the great earth is truly obtained." This is said in the Vajrasekhara Sutra. There are many others like that. In the section "These four reliances also," it says: In the Mahaparinirvana Sutra, it says: "Monks, you should abide in the four dharmas. What are the four? Abiding in the Dharma, not abiding in the person; abiding in the meaning, not abiding in the words; abiding in wisdom, not abiding in consciousness; abiding in the definitive meaning, not abiding in the guiding meaning. These four dharmas should be realized, not the four kinds of people." So it is said, and the four reliances are very extensively explained in the Inexhaustible Intelligence Sutra. The middle is the provisional meaning, and the latter is the definitive meaning. In the section of three verses such as "The intermediate is the provisional meaning, the latter is the definitive meaning," it says: In the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, it says: "Then, the Bodhisattva Real Meaning Supreme asked the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, at first in Varanasi, in the Deer Park at the Hermitage of the Rishis, for those who have entered the Hearer Vehicle, you truly revealed the Four Noble Truths, turning the wheel of Dharma that is inconceivable and wondrous. In the past, whether gods or humans, no one has been able to turn the wheel of Dharma in accordance with the Dharma in the world. The only Tathagata has turned the wheel of Dharma well. The wheel of Dharma turned by the Blessed One has the means to be guided, has the cause for guidance, is the guiding meaning, and is the basis for dispute. The Blessed One began with the non-self-nature of all dharmas, without birth and without cessation, original.
