Regarding that poor tramp who was burned alive, (Guru Rinpoche) said, 'Bring a piece of his forehead bone.' As the messenger went back and forth to fetch the bone, smoke billowed and flames blazed. In the center of the flames, an ocean appeared, and lotus plants grew in it. In the middle of the lotus, Guru Rinpoche sat, appearing eight years old, cool and serene. The messenger was amazed and prostrated to Guru Rinpoche. Then he quickly returned and reported to the king. The king did not believe it, so he went with his ministers and subjects to see for himself, and it was just as the messenger had said. The king, ministers, queen, and all the people confessed their regrets and begged for forgiveness, and prostrated at his feet. Then they invited Guru Rinpoche into the palace and asked him to turn the wheel of Dharma. And offered Mandarava (Mandāravā, consort of Guru Rinpoche) as a permanent companion. The entire kingdom of Zahor (Zāhor, located in present-day India) converted to Buddhism. They also gained the power to practice secret mantras and the union of liberation. From 'The Vajra Garland of Guru's Biography,' the fifth chapter: 'The Kingdom of Zahor Converted to Dharma and Attained the Vidyādhara of Mahāmudrā.' After that, Guru Padmasambhava and his consort together converted the entire kingdom of Oddiyana (Oḍḍiyāna, located in present-day Pakistan) to Buddhism. At Bodh Gaya (Vajrāsana, located in present-day Bihar, India), he subdued all the heretics. In the city of Vaishali (Vaiśālī, an ancient Indian city), he performed various miracles. In addition, all of Kashmir (Kha che, located in present-day Kashmir region), Khotan (Li yul, located in present-day Hotan, Xinjiang, China), and Mongolia (Sog po) converted to the pure Dharma. Next is how Guru Rinpoche went to Tibet: King Trisong Detsen (Khri srong lde'u btsan, the fifth emperor of the Tibetan Empire), an incarnation of Manjushri, looked at the wills of his father and grandfather. He saw that the previous generations of kings had only slightly promoted Buddhism. Therefore, he thought, 'This time I must also seek the Dharma.' So he consulted with the ministers of Tibet and decided to build Samye Monastery (bsam yas gtsug lag khang, the first monastery in Tibet) as the foundation for spreading Buddhism. However, fierce demons and evil spirits caused trouble, and what people built during the day was destroyed by the demons at night. The soil, stones, and wood were moved back to their original places. The ministers all advised the king to give up, but the king refused, saying, 'If this matter is not accomplished, it is meaningless for me to live. Hearing that there are many paṇḍitas and siddhas in India, it is better to invite one to subdue the earth deities and then build the monastery.' So he sent a swift messenger to India. He invited the abbot Śāntarakṣita (Śāntarakṣita, an ancient Indian monk and Buddhist scholar), who came to Tibet and performed the ritual of subduing the earth deities. However, he could not subdue them by peaceful means. The abbot then prophesied to the king, 'This Tibetan land is a border region, a land of demons. The arrogant Eight Classes of Gods and Demons are very powerful and cannot be subdued by those born from the womb or by peaceful means. Invite Padmasambhava, who is miraculously born, to subdue the earth deities, and then the king's wishes will be fulfilled. Otherwise, no one will be able to subdue them.' The king followed the advice and sent a messenger to India. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ra dzang (place name)! The great master came for the benefit of Tibet, and on the way, he placed the entire Nepal in Dharma. He subdued the arrogant tribes of the Eight Classes of Gods and Demons, especially the Lightning Mother Clouds in the sky, as well as the Rakshasa women, the mighty Nagas, and the three types of evil spirits that cause disasters, bringing them under control. He made them take vows and imposed severe oaths. He buried countless treasures in Nepal. Then he gradually came to Tibet, subdued all the great and small deities, and appointed them to guard the treasures. He went to Samye Monastery and met the king. By subduing the land, he prevented the gods and demons from causing harm. The main temple was built in the style of the Copper-Colored Mountain of Glory, with the images of the Three Lords (Avalokiteśvara, Mañjuśrī, Vajrapāṇi), surrounded by the four continents, eight subcontinents, and the iron fence mountain. It was built by humans during the day and by gods and demons at night. The foundation was laid in the Tiger year, and it was completed in the Water Horse year. It fulfilled the wishes of the king, ministers, and their entourage. This is the sixth chapter of the biography of Guru Padmasambhava, 'The Vajra Garland,' about coming to Tibet and building Samye Monastery. After that, King Trisong Detsen thought: 'Although the external temple has been built, the supports of body, speech, and mind (Buddha images, scriptures, stupas) have not yet been completed.' So he requested the Khenpo (Śāntarakṣita) and Padmasambhava to build the supports. According to Padmasambhava's instructions, the supports of body and mind were built. He requested that the Buddhist scriptures be translated into Tibetan as the support of speech. He prophesied the three translators, with Vairotsana as the main one. By teaching translation, they fully mastered the skills of translation. In addition, he gathered many children to learn translation and sent them to India to translate many Buddhist scriptures. He destroyed the erroneous Bon teachings and established the correct Dharma. He promoted the teachings that combined the Great Vehicle of Sutra and Tantra. He invited many accomplished masters and translators, led by the Kashmiri Pandit Vimalamitra, and translated all the famous Buddhist scriptures and treatises of India. The teachings of Sutra and Tantra were like the rising sun. The teachings of Padmasambhava flourished in Tibet. This is the seventh chapter of the biography of Guru Padmasambhava, 'The Vajra Garland,' about lighting the lamp of Dharma in the dark land of Tibet. After that, all the wishes of King Trisong Detsen were completely fulfilled, and he held immeasurable celebrations and enjoyments. He gave a lot of wealth to the translators and pandits and escorted them back to their respective homelands. He requested Bodhisattva (Śāntarakṣita) and Padmasambhava to stay in Tibet, and they agreed. The great master Padmasambhava went to Chimphu in Samye Monastery to practice. Khenpo Śāntarakṣita stayed in the main temple. Soon after, the king fell ill. He prayed to Padmasambhava, who went to Yarlung. He practiced the longevity protector Amitayus, and after twenty-one days, he invoked the mandala of the longevity protector. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
