Thus he grew, and resided in that palace for five years, governing the kingdom righteously and living in peace. From the 'Garland of Vajras' biography of Guru, the first chapter: His birth and the holding of the kingdom in the land of Oddiyana (Odiyana, an ancient Indian place name, meaning 'flying' or 'rotating'). For a time, while he was contemplating, Vajrasattva (Vajrasattva, an important deity in Buddhism, representing purity) appeared and prophesied: 'How can governing a kingdom accomplish the benefit of others? One should subdue all beings with the symbols of power.' Guru (Guru Rinpoche, i.e., Padmasambhava) thought in his heart that he should act accordingly, so he needed to find a way to abandon the throne. 'If I manifest mad behavior, then the ministers will be displeased, and I will be able to escape.' Thinking thus, he engaged in mad behavior. Most of the ministers were displeased, and after discussing it, they went to the king and reported: 'The young prince's behavior is often outrageous. If this continues, the country will surely decline. Now, this person must be banished to another place.' Although the king said it was inappropriate, it was to no avail, and he was banished to the cool garden of the Indian charnel ground (Sitavana, a Buddhist term, referring to a cemetery). He subdued all the Dakinis (Dakini, female deities), etc., performed the four activities (referring to the four activities of pacifying, increasing, magnetizing, and subduing), and killed all the unruly ones. For five years, he turned the wheel of Dharma for the Dakinis. When practicing the assembly of the nectar of merit, he actually achieved it, and saw the deity, and received prophecies, and his name was also called Padma Yonten Jungne (Lotus Source of Merit). From the 'Garland of Vajras' biography of Guru, the second chapter: Abandoning the throne and residing in the cool garden of the charnel ground. After that, he went to Humchen Rock, intending to practice the great Vidyadhara (Vidyadhara, holder of knowledge) of the mind. He practiced the mandala of Yangdak Heruka (Yangdak Heruka, a Tibetan Buddhist deity), killed male demons, and engaged in union with female demons. He perfected his mad behavior and stayed for five years, turning the wheel of Dharma for the Dakinis. He directly saw the deities of the Yangdak mind mandala, and simultaneously obtained supreme and common accomplishments. His name was also called Padma Yangdak Jungne (Lotus Perfect Source). After that, he went to the terrifying charnel ground, practiced the mandala of Yamantaka (Yamantaka, the wrathful form of Manjushri) and stayed there. He adorned his body with the eight charnel ground ornaments, became the chief of the assembly who subdued the Dakinis, perfected union and liberation, and obtained accomplishments. He saw the face of Manjushri Yamantaka, gained freedom, and was able to perform twelve great activities. He stayed behind the stupa for five years, and his name was also called Padma Khyenrap Jungne (Lotus Source of Wisdom). After that, he went to the charnel ground of piled lotuses, practiced the mandala of Hayagriva (Hayagriva, a Buddhist protector deity) and the lotus empowerment, stayed there and performed the activities of union and liberation, and turned the secret mantra wheel of Dharma for the Dakinis. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
